Your Fathom whould have come with a 2GB card. Have you tried the only card to see if it's recognized? When you inserted the new card, did you push it all of the way in so that it 'clicked'? On the phone, have you tried opening the settings menu, then memory, and across the top seledting storage card to see if it's recognized?
If the old card works but the new one won't then I would think that it's a bad card. If the new card isn't working, try using it on the PC. If it shows up, Format it using the 'FAT32' setting, and then try it in the phone.
Have you tried booting with the card in the phone? I want try what we can to see if we can rule out a bad SD Card slot on your Fathom...
