I've put a ringtone from my computer onto my SD card, moved it from my card to my phone's memory, and tried to set it as a ringtone for a contact's text messages. Despite the contact information displaying the ringtone as set, the phone will not play the correct file.

This contact used to have another custom ringtone, so I know the ability works for this particular contact. When I set the new file, it continued playing the previous custom ringtone. I completely removed that previous ringtone file from both my phone and SD card, and now that contact will only play the default message tone when I try to set it to any of my custom ringtones.

I know the file I want works, because I set it to my boyfriend's contact information to test it and it played perfectly.

I've deleted and re-entered this contact, and it still won't play the file I want, or any of the ones I've been willing to use as a substitute since it won't play the one I truly want to hear for it. My sister says she's got the same issue with her LG Script from time to time.

Does this phone just suck for that, or is there something I can do to fix it?

One old trick you can try, if you haven't already is to pull the battery while the phone is turned on... Not Charging, but turned on. Leave the battery out for a minute or so. Doing this will do a "Soft Reset" on the phone by clearing the temporary memory which might be holding the old ringtone info and not allowing the new one to play.

Did you say that you have tried multiple custom Ringtones and none of them will work? How about if you switch to a different ringtone that cam on the phone as a test... Will it use the new ringtone? If it's only one ringtone then maybe we have problems with it, if it's any custom ringtone We'll have to look else where for the problem.

Let me know.

Tried this, but unfortunately it didn't work. Possibly I didn't leave the battery out long enough; I will try it again and leave the battery out a bit longer.

I have tried multiple custom ringtones, yes, and none of them will work anymore (for this single contact only, the rest seem to work all right). The original custom ringtone I set worked just fine; then I tried to change it, and it refused to play the new custom ringtone and instead continued to play the old one. I removed the old ringtone from my phone altogether, and now it won't play any of my custom ringtones. I haven't tried using one of the ringtones that come on the phone, but I have set one now. Once I get a text from this contact I will report what happens (I usually get a text from them sometime during the day).

Thank you for your help!

Okay, tried different ringtones that come with the phone, as well as popping out the battery while the phone was on and not charging, and this single contact won't play ANY other ringtone at all other than the default message beep.

have you tried creating a Duplicate of the Contact with Problems and Assigning the ring tone to the new contact? It sounds to me like possibly we have an issue with that one contact.

If the contact, you are having trouble with and his name is Bob Smith, I would create a contact named "Robert Smith" and assign him Bob's number. I would then change Bob's phone number by one digit just so it's different and then have them call or txt you. If that works then I would copy all of the contact info to the new Contact and delete the old one and rename the new one....

Let me know if this works.

Tried making a new, differently named version of my contact and assigning it the ringtone I wanted to use, but no dice. I get texts from them fine, but it's still just the default message beep. Even tried deleting the old one once I'd gotten a text for the new one, to see if that would help, and it didn't. =/

So just this one contact won't play it's assigned Ringtone even if it's an internal ringtone... I am stumped... If a reset didn't work, new contact didn't work, Different internal Ringtones didn't work, I'll have to look into it deeper... How old is the phone?

Maybe about two months? Three at the most. Never left in a hot car or outside in the rain, never been dropped or thrown. I have no idea what the heck is going on it with.

I have looked here I can't find anything that will help. When you recreated the contact, did you change anything that would change where it appears in your Phone Book Alphabetically?? maybe it's how it's stored in a particular place in memory. Have you tried calling Customer Service.... Sorry if I have already asked. (800) 793-8896

It's not in exactly the same place as it was, but it was already malfunctioning before I added a contact between it and the top of the list. I haven't tried Customer Service yet, but I'll give them a ring and see if they can figure out what's up. Thanks for trying to help me figure it out, though, I appreciate it!
