I have a LG Lotus and a friend of mine is able to download ringtones to phones but for some reason we can not figure out how to download them to my phone... Is there any one that can help me?... We sent one ringtone to the phone via text, selected the web address it gave and selected download to phone... it plays the ringtone there on the spot, but I can not find it in my phone...I have a USB cord but the computer doesn't recognize it... Is there software I need to download, to send the ringtones to my phone through the USB? Basically, How can I get the ringtones from zedge, tuneusin, etc... from my computer to my phone?

After you hook up the USB cord, you have to use the phone to connect or disconnect to the PC.

Goto the Main Menu / Tools / USB Mode --- then you have four choices. I always use "Mass Storage." After you select that then the PC will see it as USB memory like it does for a jump drive. You can use Windows Explorer to drag and drop. When you are done, hit the backup key on your phone and it will ask you if you want to exit, say yes and then it will disconnect from the PC.

The only place I was able to get the Lotus to see my ring tones was in the DCIM / 100LGDCF subdirectory. Good luck.

Metaphiz, what type of file are you using? I tried doing this with MP3 ringtones and could not get it to work. This is really frustrating.

LG Product Pro, any resolution?

I do not have access to the internal files of the phone so I'm not sure what the file format is. Further, I advise against manipulating the internal files and folders within the phone especially if you're unfamiliar with the file system. Please be cautious as any damage you may cause to your phone by manipulating the file system will void any warranty.

I wonder if this is dependent upon firmware version. I put files in that folder and my Lotus doesn't see anything. The only thing that gets put there are photos taken with my camera. The MUSIC folder gets recognized by the Music Player, so any files there can be played. But of course, you can't assign them as ringtones.

You can get custom ringtones on your phone by using a website that sends a text message with MP3 download link. pcs.cruz-network.net works well, and so does funformobile. Zedge does not work with some LG phones (like the Lotus).

Eventually, once BitPim is updated with recognition of the Lotus, you'll be able to transfer files directly via your computer. Until then, the website download is the only way to go.

You also might be putting a file type that isn't recognized there.

Thanks to Sprint the Lotus is crippled to transferring media but if you rename the mp3 file to a 3g2 file it will see it on the microSD card. Thus you can take a file called myringtone.mp3 and rename it to myringtone.3g2 and put it in the DCIM / 100LGDCF folder and it will recognize if for ringtone use. If you just want the mp3 file to play with the built-in media player than you can leave it in mp3 format and put it in the music folder on the microSD.

I'll keep tinkering with my phone to see if I can find better work arounds and solutions. So far I've only been able to transfer images straight to phone memory via bluetooth.

I recently bought a lotus as well and wanted to add ringtones. Ive been down this road before with other sprint phones. The problem is normally you have to get the ringtone from the sd card to internal memory(RAM). With the lotus at least you can play videos(in 3G2 format) for a ringer if you like. What I did was use windows movie maker and place a still photo for my video and then drag my song clip(i edit mine down to about 30 seconds) into the movie board and save it as a movie file(WMV). Then went to http://www.mysupersoft.com/allguides/wmv_to_3g2_3gpp2_converter/index.html and downloaded a converter to convert from WMV to 3G2 format. When you run this converter program use the "portable" option it seems to be the most user friendly. Being a trial version it will only let you convert the first 50 percent of your movie file, to fix this drag you song file down to the bottom of your story board twice(in windows movie maker), before saving it and then converting it using the superAVconverter. After the conversion is complete you will need to place the file in DCIM/100LGDCF as another person mentioned.

Shame on the cell manufacturers and service providers for making this so hard in order to force us to buy ringtones or use their data services. Too many companies in bed these days. Dont bite the hand that feeds you.

Im sure someone will come out with good interface software similar to bitpim to transfer files straight to internal RAM without all this work. One guy mentioned that you could simply rename the file myringtone.3g2 that would not work that would simply create a file called myringtone.3g2.mp3.

I was able to play my mp3 ringtones on my Lotus.

1. Put the files in the DCIM folder (doesn't matter where)

2. Disconnect the phone from USB

3. Go to Main Menu/Tools/Memory Card Manager/ then find your ringtones

4. Highlight your mp3 ringtone

5. Select Options/Rename and erase where it says .mp3 and type .3g2

6. Repeat steps 4-5 for all of the ringtones

7. Once you are done, select Options/Multi-Selection and select all of the renamed ringtones

8. Then select Options/Move and select To Phone or Into Phone

9. If all is done correctly, your ringtones can be found under My Albums/In Phone

10. To apply one of them go to Main Menu/Settings/Sounds/Ringer Type/Incoming Calls/Contact entries/All Contacts/ and then select Assigned Media and there they are

I hope i helped anyone out at all

Thank-you for the great info.. my phone wont let me move the files when i use the multi-select after renaming the files, but I don't mind moving them one at a time. I have had my Lotus since July 09 and have been trying to figure out how to do this. Thanks again for the great info.
