Which format is it in. If the phone is not reading the audio or ringtone file it is not a compatable format. WMA is the most common to be used.WMA AAC AAC+ can be used as well.

The existing ringtones etc are MP3... It seems that anything that is on the SD card cannot be used.

That implies that there is another location that the files have to be placed in order to be picked up...

Hello, I'm having the same problem... I'm not finding any documentation for uploading the ringtones (properly) to the Xenon. Have you been able to find formal documentation online? Thanks

FYI... my problem cured (accidentally). Apparently, there's a 300k file size that has unique meaning. If it's greater than 300K, it will be assumed to be an MP3 song and available only for playing on MP3 player. If it's smaller than 300k, it will automatically appear in the ringtone list, available for selection as a ringtone.

OK. I have been having the same problem so I did what rcu2 suggested:
Created WMV's no larger than 300K. Mine are actually 250K or smaller. When I downloaded them to my phone, they went into the music file on my phone's external memory (SD card?). So I created a folder on the external memory called "Ringtones" and downloaded the files to that folder. They still show up in the music file on my phone, not in ringtones and I cannot use them as ringtones. When I connect my phone to my PC I have to set the USB connection as Music Sync. If I set it as "Mass Storage" Windows (XP) explorer sees it as an external drive. When I click on it it wants me to insert a disc. The only way I can get my PC to see it as a GR500 is to set the USB connection mode as Music Sync. But when I do that, in Windows Explorer I get: GR500 Music Sync Player - External Memory: Albums, Music, Playlists, Ringtones (which I added myself). What am I doing wrong?

Also, I cannot seem to access my phone's internal memory through my PC...only the external memory.

The problem is with the file size. On the Xenon, if I'm not mistaken the file has to be under 160KB.... Try using a small MP3 and see if that works for you... I know it took some experimenting on my part before I got mine to work. Why the file size limitation??? I don't know. But I can see if I can find an answer.

So if I reduce the file size to under 160K and put the files in the music folder then the phone should recognize them as ringtones?

On the xenon, file sizes cannot exceed 300kb as an MP3. I got bunches of them with that size.

Have you been able to make your own ringtones on your PC and download them to your phone? If you have, how did you do it?

Good feedback, and you're right 300KB is the Max size... I could have sworn it was 160KB, but I know the eXpo is 300KB.

I found a sweet little utility called "MP3 to Ringtone Gold" That makes the slicing and dicing of MP3s quick and easy...

OK. I got it to work using an online service from Ventones. What you do is upload your MP3 to them. Then you can pick what of the MP3 you want to use as your ringtone. They process it and then text it back to you or you can have them send it through your browser. Best of all...it's free. Thanks for all your help. These forums are the best!
