The LG Env3 could really use some help with the "Contacts" portion of the software. Example: I enter your name, your cell number, work number, home number, etc. Now I enter another name with any of the same numbers from the first entry. So I get a call. The caller ID will pick the first alphabetical entry with that number. Basically you cannot enter the same work number for several people, etc. LG should be able to come up with a fix for this. Can't say that any of my other phones has ever had this problem. Rod

Rod I apologize for the delay in my response.

I see what your issue is but I have been sitting here thinking about it and I wonder how this could be fixed. If the caller ID shows the number (555-555-5555) it then pulls up the contact with that number. How could the phone differentiate the same phone number with multiple contacts. Maybe this is why I am not an engineer ... lol ... I will send this on to the engineers and see if they can figure it out.

Hi Rod. LGPP is correct. There is no way this could be corrected unless you create one contact with the office number. With VOIP telephone systems this is how the number will always show up on your phone and there is no phone or system in the world that will do it otherwise because its all about how its being sent to the cellular network.

This has to do with a couple of things:

1. the VOIP office line is centralized therefore once a call goes out anywhere outside that network its part of, it will always come up as a single number unless the IT person sets it up differently. Ex. your big boss uses same phone system, but has his specific extension with its unique #.

2. The network will only recognize what is being sent to it. In this case it would be in the form of a general 10 digit office#. Your phone at that point would only recognize that 10 digit number and translate it to the associated contact. Because this 10 digit # is used for several contacts, the phone/network does not determine the extension whcih its coming from, only the general office #.

Its probably not the answer you were hoping for but is the reason.

I do have a question though. Is there anyway to bypass your office's call center?

Some offices have it where, you can dial: 555-555-5555 p4567 without having to go to the main voice junction to get to that extension. This of course would only determine your outgoing calls though, not incoming.

The solution should be a very simple software change ... allow the user to mark a phone number under each contact as the primary number. Then have the caller ID key only on the primary number. This would allow you to still have the other numbers in the contact list.

Thats a great idea, but unfortunately you can thank your carrier for not having that as a software requirement for all their feature phones.

Verizon are very strict about the requirements for all their 'dumb phones'. This includes how Caller ID works in the phone. I can tell you firsthand that what you are looking for is not a requirement for incoming calls. Only outgoing. You can set the default number for out going calls from the list of numbers you have per contact.

If you havent noticed with the exception of smart phones, all the Verizon phones act and behave the same.

I hope your idea becomes something that Verizon could build on, but I wouldnt hold your breath.
