So I went in to a Verizon store a while back to upgrade my bb pearl. I looked at multiple andoid os phones, but the store didn't have any of the ones I wanted in stock. The only Android phone they had in stock was the Ally. I liked the slide out keyboard (loved my tilt), but felt the salesman drastically over sold the phone. The phone is VERY slow, can't do more than one thing at time, shuts off while trying to use gps, videos look like garbage, and asks me to  wait or force close ALL THE TIME.

Brought it back to the store, and they made me download some task killer, but it hasn't helped. I just want my phone to work. If anyone has suggestions, please help. Thanks.

I'm sorry for the experience so far.

* The Task Killer will only be marginally helpful in low memory situations when you have a lot of Apps installed oyour phone.

* Freezing and Rebooting?  Yes I've seen this before.  There is a patch that is due out shortly that should address those issues...  I know it doesn't help now, but I'm hoping soon.

* Videos look like garbage?  What is your Video Sorce?  If you're watching Youtube Videos, have you tried Turning on the "High Quality Mode which is in the settings?  It really helps on the Youtube stuff I watch.  I have Ripped several Movies to my phone and I'm getting good quality out of them.  30fps full screen and they run without hesitation or dropping frames.

If you're still within your 30 Days you might consider exchanging the Ally if it isn't meeting your needs...  But If you hang on to it I'll try to help out.

Thanks for the help. I don't have a lot of extra apps loaded on the phone, but I do use most everything preloaded on t. When I video my 1 yr old daughter, and go back and watch them or send them to someone else, they are very choppy. The still pictures do come out looking ok. Pretty much every time I try to switch from one thing to another (i.e. text messaging to email) I have to wait 5-10 secs for the phone to respond. I have had quite a few smart phones with different operating systems over the past 7 or 8 years, and this is by far the slowest.

I have had the phone for a little over 2 months, and everything was fine for about the first 20 days. I started using the gps while I was out of town, and the phone kept crashing on me. Ever since then, I have had these problems. I do a lot of multi-tasking on the phone (main reason for going android), but the pjhone is very slow to non responsive when switching to other tasks. Wondering if the 2.2 update will help or will I have to raise hell to get another device.

On a different note, I swapped my wife from an iphone to this phone, and I hear about it almost every day. So much for my 55" LG 3d 360MHZ. SHE WILL NEVER LET ME BUY ANOTHER LG PRODCUT AGAIN.

I'm sorry about the problems you're seeing... To go from the iPhone and step into an Entry Level Android phone sounds like an interesting experience...  To try and resolve the hesitation issues, Id watch your memory and make sure you don't get down to the 20MB range for free space... And  I'm sure you are aware of the rest of potential issues, Back Ground apps or processes that keep going even though you're not using them.  Also the onld Battery Pull trick might help also.

Update to fix the Speed of the phone?  As of right now, there are two updates that could hit the Ally...  The first should be an LG update to address some of the exicting issues, and the second should be the Android 2.2 update.  I'm not sure what performace difference, if any, that we will see on the Ally.  But it will be interesting.
