So I went in to a Verizon store a while back to upgrade my bb pearl. I looked at multiple andoid os phones, but the store didn't have any of the ones I wanted in stock. The only Android phone they had in stock was the Ally. I liked the slide out keyboard (loved my tilt), but felt the salesman drastically over sold the phone. The phone is VERY slow, can't do more than one thing at time, shuts off while trying to use gps, videos look like garbage, and asks me to wait or force close ALL THE TIME.

I'm sorry for the experience so far. * The Task Killer will only be marginally helpful in low memory situations when you have a lot of Apps installed oyour phone. * Freezing and Rebooting? Yes I've seen this before. There is a patch that is due out shortly that should address those issues... I know it doesn't help now, but I'm hoping soon. * Videos look like garbage? What is your Video Sorce? If you're watching Youtube Videos, have you tried Turning on the "High Quality Mode which is in the settings? It really helps on the Youtube stuff I watch. I have Ripped several Movies to my phone and I'm getting good quality out of them. 30fps full screen and they run without hesitation or dropping frames. If you're still within your 30 Days you might consider exchanging the Ally if it isn't meeting your needs... But If you hang on to it I'll try to help out. |

Thanks for the help. I don't have a lot of extra apps loaded on the phone, but I do use most everything preloaded on t. When I video my 1 yr old daughter, and go back and watch them or send them to someone else, they are very choppy. The still pictures do come out looking ok. Pretty much every time I try to switch from one thing to another (i.e. text messaging to email) I have to wait 5-10 secs for the phone to respond. I have had quite a few smart phones with different operating systems over the past 7 or 8 years, and this is by far the slowest.

I'm sorry about the problems you're seeing... To go from the iPhone and step into an Entry Level Android phone sounds like an interesting experience... To try and resolve the hesitation issues, Id watch your memory and make sure you don't get down to the 20MB range for free space... And I'm sure you are aware of the rest of potential issues, Back Ground apps or processes that keep going even though you're not using them. Also the onld Battery Pull trick might help also. Update to fix the Speed of the phone? As of right now, there are two updates that could hit the Ally... The first should be an LG update to address some of the exicting issues, and the second should be the Android 2.2 update. I'm not sure what performace difference, if any, that we will see on the Ally. But it will be interesting. |
