I do my movies for the eXpo using CuCusofts Video converter using H264 under .3gp at 480x272 and 29.97fps ... Seems to look good and plays smoothly.

Something has to be quicker than dragging and dropping a video onto Win Media player , clicking on Sync and letting it do the conversion and i'm not sure if it was something I checked off in a settings somewhere maybe chose speed over quality but my videos do not play very smooth

I use a Media conversion utility on my PC to RIP and format the Video for my eXpo. I then either eject the MicroSD and use a Memory Card reader and copy it over that way. If I do use ActiveSync to copy the Video, I tell tell ActiveSync to copy the Video without performing any conversion to it... It's a little slower to copy this way verses using a Card Reader, but not to bad... To turn off the conversion in ActiveSync, go to Tools>>Advanced Tools>> and on the General Tab, UNCHECK the Box by "Convert files when synchronized, Copied, or moved"

Thanks for the recomendation of CuCusofts Video Converter , After installing it and seeing the many different formats I can convert to was enough to tell me to purchase it but you must be using an older version than I downloaded because I do not have a .3gp setting that uses H264 codec with a 480x272 size.

I have a H263 codec under .3gp but none of the dimensions are close to 480x272 , Also has a preset specificly for LG phone but that results in a too small of a video when viewing full screen , I did find a default preset for Pocket PC WMV video which has the 480x272 size and the 29.97 Frames Per Second , I guess my question is how did you come up with the 480x272? Is that the screen dimension or what's closest to fit the screen? Of the 7 movies i've converted all have fit to the edge or had a thin black border around video to edge of screen which is way better than what Windows Media Player has done in it's converting process.

Good Catch! I forgot to mention that after I have converted it using the H264 Codec under 3gp, I changed the file extension from .MP4 to .3GP that way the phone will recognize and play it.

I have 8 movies re-encoded , all coming out to be around 700mb's still , have 2 of them that started out 1,400mb's , 1 re-encoded down to 700mb's and another at 1.11Gb (Avatar,Had to have this 1 on the phone) but they still do not play very smooth , the quality is fine and most are DVD rip's , All are stored on the 16Gb microSD so in use is 6269.44 Mb and 8904.72 Mb free , Would a higher Class of MicroSD card work better , I really wasn't looking at that when I bought the 16GB and maybe it's a lower like Class 2 for what I paid for it , really just needed something quick for pic storage.

Ok,maybe if I just change the extension from .wmv to .3gp then maybe the phone won't have to work so hard to decode it as it plays ? I'll try that first.

No I don't think so... It just won't recognize it... How high is your data rate? Did you use the H264 Codec? 29.97 fps? What is your Audio Sample Size and rate? Stereo or Mono?

Not sure if this thread needs to be moved to 3gp Movie Conversions ?

I knew it wouldn't just like it doesn't on my pc but thought i'd try anyway ,

When I encode them with Cucusoft the only Preset Codec I found with a 29.97 fps , 480 x 272 video size , Audio Bit Rate of 128K , Sample Rate of 44100 , Stereo , Says the Video Encoder is WMV v9.0 , When playing the Data Rate is 1041Kbps , and leaves them as a .wmv file .

Now I did last night take a DVD Rip of Avater that was encoded as an .avi with DiVX codec and re-encoded it with Cucusoft under the prest for .3gp and it plays fine , smooth , good audio , but doesn't quite fit the screen with the preset sizes it gives to work with.

Also keep in mind this is not a priority to have movies on my phone , more like a luxery ,conversation piece , time killer sitting at the dentist , and pretty much just a hobby so not really any priority or hurry for it .

Sorry I get going to fast and forget to mention minor details like I am using CuCuSoft's "Ultimate DVD and Video Converter" which gives several more templates to play with. I started out with one of the iPod Templates using the H264 Codec (I would experiment to see what works for you) with a Frame size of 480x320 and then from the settings I open the Video/Audio settings to customize the basic template. I adjusted the settings until I got Video that looked good and was close to full screen on my Phones, the eXpo was one that I worked with. I have lost my original settings file, so I'll have to redo it... But looking at "Monsters VS Aliens" which is letterbox (16:9) Quicktime reports that it is 480x208, Millions of colors at 29.97fps and with a total data rate of 470 kbps ...... Don't go to high or your start dropping frames. You have to balance the audio and the video quality... But it looks great and really is an eye opener for your friends.... Especially with the Pico Projector.
