I have a Rumor 2 from Virgin Mobile. There are some applications on line I want to use but anytime I browse and click to download them I get a page that just says "access denied"

Same issue in both the native browser and in Opra Mini.

Is there something wrong with the phone that I should ask for a warranted replacement? Am I not doing something right?

These are JAVA apps and specifically say they are compatible with the Rumor 2

Have you checked with Virgin Mobile to see if they have Blocked the content, or if they allow downloaded applications? We set the phones up the way the carrier asks us to. The Rumor2 for Virgin Mobile is configured differently than the one for Sprint.

I have wasted too much time with them already. It is my phone and I paid for it. It is not up to VM to decide for me what applications I want or need. They have only about two or three apps and none of them are of any use to me. If they deliberate crippled the phone they failed to advise me of that fact when they sold it to me. They sold me a "LG Rumor 2" which according to everything I studied before buying it is supposed to be able to use java applications.

Same with the memory card and ring tones...their site says I can use it for ring tones. I returned a Kyocera phone for that reason only to run into stone walling by them on using a feature they actually promote.

I am filing complaints to everyone re. this issue because they are fraudulently providing phones by describing capabilities they knowingly seem to have disabled. There Terms of Service say the warranted is provided by LG because, as they say, they don't make the phones or the software.

So if this phone is crippled I want the correct upgraded software to make every feature of this phone functional. I own it, not VM.

While I like the phone...I believe I was sold a device with crippled software making it only partially functional. I believe I was lied to in order to get me to upgrade. They refereed me to their own web site that says I can use the extended memory for ring tones among other things. Then when I ask how, they give me a run-around.

I believe LG needs to take this up with Virgin Mobile because they are giving your products a bad name. LG needs to require as a condition of providing them phones, that they fully disclose what functions VM has disabled before you buy their phones and give the buy the option of buying an alternative phone that has not been crippled.

Thanks for the comments and I am forwarding them on to those who will be interested in seeing them... I think you are running into a couple of issues. First off the carriers are trying to capture your $$$ It's not that they cripple the phones it's just that they want you to get any add ons from there site so they can make the money. Sprint, Verizon US Cellular, AT&T, to one degree or another ALL do this... AT&T seems to be the most open as far as letting you grab content from non AT&T sources, but it's something they do to enhance there profitability.
If you search the Web, ther are generally work arounds to customize about any phone, but it tales some digging.
Second of all the Rumor 2 is probably 1 and half years old... It's still a great phone, but the industry has totally changed since it was introduced and phones are becoming more accessible. AYour sales person probably wasn't as up to date as he could have been... I'm guess that 90% of the people that buy this phone want it to simply make calls and the other things that it does, if used at all, are just things they need occasionally. And last of all I don't think the sales person really understood your needs and wants in a phone and sold you the wrong one... Don't get me wrong, again, it's a great phone but not really one for someone, like you, who wants Trick out the phone to make it do cool things.

What sounds like you need is something like the "Ally" or a "Droid" which are phones running on the Android operating system which is very open with thousands of applications and can be customized to your hearts content. The Ally is either Free from Verizon or at worst $49.00 but it does require a data plan. So it would mean a contract and higher monthly fees... But is very customizable... I have one and I am constantly adding Apps, Wall Papers, sounds and changing the phone all around to meet my daily whims.

I don't mean to confuse you, the Rumor 2 is a great phone.

I decided to file complaints against Virgin Mobile and warn others away from their phones including the LG products until they update their web site to include factual information about what features they have disabled in their phones. Their site contains false and misleading information that might apply to the LX265 but does not apply to their crippled VM265 version they actually sell.

I filed complaints with the BBB, The FCC and the State of Florida Attorney General to investigate them for false and misleading advertising on their web site.

My next issue is to get them to provide me with a replacement phone that is not crippled because they failed to disclose these limitations when I specifically ordered the upgrade to the Rumor 2 so I could us the memory card to place ringtones on my phone.

They had a legal obligation to inform me at that time that their model disabled that feature and that the information on their own web site was incorrect. Rather than being honest they led me to purchase for additional money, a phone they told me would let me do what I wanted. That is false, misleading and perhaps a fraud.

Also no where on their web site to they disclose the fact that they have disable to ability to install third party applications. In my conversations with them they were so stubborn that they could not get past the phrase "we don't guarantee comparability with other applications" to which I countered with no luck that I did not ask them to guarantee anyone's applications and that their lack of a guarantee had nothing at all to do with my making a personal choice to try other apps and let the providers of those programs assume their guarantees.

In short my complaint contained several allegations. False and misleading sales and advertising, offering features that they have actually disabled. Failing to disclose features that they disabled or had disabled by LG. Then leaving the warranted in the hands of LG stating that they (VM) did not make the phones or the software, also failing to disclose that VM did specify the software used but refuse to warranted that software, side stepping liability for defects, which I consider disabled functions to be unless I was informed in advance and give the necessary information to have made an informed decision at purchase time.

If VM actually had applications I wanted and ring tones I wanted it might not be such a big deal. However they have very few apps and none that are of any interest of value to me. Likewise their selection of ring tones assumes I am 17 years old. I am 64 and use my phone for business, hence the desire for ring tones I make suitable to my contact list and my need for applications I can actually use.

If the Rumor 2 is several years old why don't they have modern phones available. One would assume carriers would offer a range of recent phones, not those that may be antiques in terms of cell phone years.

My issue with VM is (1) failure to disclose before the sale and (2) misleading information about this phone on their web site.

I don't care how much money they make selling crappy apps and ring tones to kids but that does not mean my needs should be cast aside like yesterday's rubbish.

They created this mess because I made it clear what I wanted to do, they directed me to the Rumor and the page about the memory card and said that was the way to go. Based on their suggestion and their web site I made the purchase of an additional phone...now that I paid for it they tell me it won't do what I clearly indicated I expected.

To me when they say "unlimited web" then they block sites with applications I may want that is "limited web" based on what VM thinks I have a right to download to my phone.

Poor service and a total disregard for trying to fix a problem of their own making.

I would assume someone at the manufacturer would know how to do these things as opposed to having to search for work-arounds. I have no intention to sign any long term contracts with anyone. Based on what my research told me the Rumor 2 is capable of running most java applications and has all the power I need. The though of paying a hundred bucks a month more to a carrier so I can have applications on my phone that may or may not even use their network is ridiculous. When I buy a PC from Acer or Dell I am not limited to the applications they or my ISP may decide I am entitled to. I pay the ISP for my data connection but it is up to me to decide what applications I want and where to get them.

I even had Boost mobile before but found the iDEN network slow and they had nice phones on their web site but no one had them in stock or scalped prices. Boost cost twice as much. I had some Blackberry's I used and the nice thing is they don't lock their phones up. They provide free software for their phones and a standard data cable allows you to install applications and back up your phone to your computer.

I really wish LG had something like that but I guess the Rumor is not it because I have not found it possible to make a USB connection to the phone and LG does not seem to offer software for that purpose.

I guess what I am saying...if there are work around's you guys of all should know what they are.

Also when you sell a phone to carriers you need to include in your contracts that sellers disclose not just the features their model has disabled but how old they are.

If you or I purchase an LG phone it is our phone not Virgin Mobile. If I want to download install third party apps, games, ring tones , exc. then we should be able to.  We  purchased hardware that is crippleware thats not right.  We should be only limited by our phone plans.
