Just bought an Ally on Sunday, and so far I hae enjoyed using it (my first LG phone). My first question is whether or not I can turn off the Ally completely and still have the alarm go off. (I have read here that for other models this is not possible, but wanted to ask about the Ally specifically.)

Second, I have been reading about updates/upgrades to the Ally software. How does one know what's available, and once available, how does one actually upgrade it?

Overall, I'm happy with the phone so far. Battery life is short compared to my previous Blackberry, and it's a little blkier, but I can get about a full eight hours out of a charge.

I'm sure there will be other questions later, but thanks for the help now.

Welcome to the forum!

* If you turn the phone off the Alarms won't sound... This seems to be the way all LG Phones work. I'd like that feature as well.

* There are different types of updates.

** The Firmware updates are provided by LG and they will be sent to your Phone through Verizon... The updates only happen as needed, one is due out shortly, and you will be notified that one is available through the "Notification" Window. Or you can go to Settings>> About Phone>> System updates. You can choose that option to see if their is an update available.

** Operating System updates... if their are any Updates to the Android 2.1 operating system they will be sent to your phone in a similar manner. Google is planning on releasing a new version of the Android operating system with in the next few weeks, but unfortunately it doesn't look like the Ally will be capable of running the new OS.

** Application updates happen fairly often and you will be notified of updates through the Android Store or the application it's self... Watch for these so you can keep your Apps up to date.

Glad you are enjoying the Ally, I really like mine as well... I would read on line documents about managing Applications on Android Phones. This will help you best manage Battery Life and Memory.
