Hi, Obviously by my model number on my phone I'm coming to you from another country but for this reason. The mobile phone company I use (and most here in Canada) block many utilities and options in our phones by flashing their own firmware over the original firmware distributed by LG with your new phone. This causes a bunch of problems like the one I'm having now. No ESN or serial number installed in my phone. I actually accidentaly lost it when trying to activate. This gave me the idea...why not just go back to the original firmware if there is a possible way to do that.

Anyone got any ideas? I know I'm wanting to do something that might be "illegal" which is rediculous. Its my phone! I paid for it! Unfortunately, my mobile phone company is a bit communistic.=)

Anyone help me? That would be amazing! I am currently phoneless...."sniff"

sincerely, pittifully yours,

The ESN number should be under the battery on a sticker attached to the phone. If that sticker has been removed then the phone cannot be activated because of legal issues beyond our control. If the sticker is there, then you will have the ESN number in HEX or DEC and/or the MEID number that they can use to activate the device. Unfortunately when using a device bought in a different country you will often experience these types of problems. I do not think it is a communist thing as much as it is a monopoly issue. Currently I believe the US and Canada are the only countries that do not use Open Frequencies, but the FCC has been working on this for a little over a year now. You can learn more here http://www.switched.com/2007/08/01/fcc-to-let-you-use-your-cell-phone-with-any-carrier/

Thank you so much for your reply and explaining the diplomatics,

LOL, yes, I agree for the monopoly issue and not communistic. I was a little angry with my service provider at the time I posted.

Also I see I should have explained my issue better . The problem is really this, My sticker is on the back of my phone and I do have the ESN. My problem is that I accidentally punched some kind of code into my phone and caused it to crash or be completely wiped out. I did manage by looking at forums on the web to find a code ##Telus and then by playing with it -111111 (It also had erased my original sublock code that came with my provider so it didnt work anymore). That alowed me to get in and reset my phone which worked great and I can get Telus service working but only to call them because the one thing it didn't put back in my phone was the ESN and I have no way to put that in as editing is blocked. Is there some kind of code that will aquire my ESN for my phone? I love my LG phone. It works perfectly when this hasn't happened. Believe me, I have kicked my own butt quite a few times for this stupid stupid mistake. Next time I'll make sure to look at the phone before I start punching in codes as I was supposed to be activating my sons phone which feels and looks a lot like mine. Ugh!

Why not just return it to your carrier and pay whatever the replacement fee is? Usually like $50. If you get a nice rep maybe they'll do it for free.

I would jump at a chance for an inexpensive replacement but unfortunately Telus doesn't work that way without making you sign up for another 3 year contract to get another new phone assuming they let me do that when I'm only 18 months into my original contract with this phone..Also, I really have a hard time throwing this thing in the dump when its a perfectly good phone and not that old.

This must be the green in me.
