OK... So Iknow its just not an Ally issue, but it seems to be worse on it than an other 2.1 device... Mine uses ALOT of battery, and when I look at battery usage it says its mostly sytem standby... Upon closer look its saying that its without a singal 98% of the time (almost like roaming/no signal when it comes to battery use).... Sometimes flipping to airplane mode and then back will fix it but at times it goes right back.... It can kill a battery quick and cant be good for the hardware...

Over on Android forums, may have found fix...

--Open dial pad and dial *#*#4636#*#*
(If Testing menu doesn't come up than click "Call" and it will come up)
>Go to Phone information>Scroll down and you'll see preferred network type>click it and switch it to GSM/CDMA auto (PRL)

have you actually gotten this to work? I saw this on another forum and I've changed mine but I'm still sitting at 74%... The claim is that it will substantially lower your Standby Time under Battery Usage... I have seen mine as low as 50% but still pretty high...

If anyone tried this, let me know how it works.

Pro make sure you reset the phone to put numbers back to zero... i did this along with the operation above and mine has not gone over 5%... A lot more reasonable than the 95% I was showing earlier...

Good Info... I checked mine again and it had reverted to the original settings so I set it back to the new settings and reset the phone... I'll see if it helps.

You have any better luck with this Pro... I find some days mine can be higher but the battery use has been more on par....It did take a few days to get full use of the battery when phone was new, but thats normal....

I want to better understand the "StandBy" battery issue so I'll look into it more. Yeah a few Charges got me up to where I figured it should be.

Has there been any definitive solutions to this? Pro are they talking about it on the development side, maybe a fix?

There are only 2 definitive solutions to this: Lg releases 2.2 for Ally or Lg backports the entire dialer portion of 2.2 and then rolls it into an update.

The only luck i've ever had with the 50% bug is when I start my phone in the morning, I put it into airplane mode and leave it that way for about 5 minutes. When I take it out of airplane mode, it runs below 10% for the rest of the day. But the next morning when I turn the phone on, I have to do the same thing again. Wish I had better luck with the network type fix because that would be a lot easier.

Ok i noticed something today. After a restart i go in to settings and it says that it's been unplugged for 2 minutes, but when i go in to cell stand by it shows "Time on" of 4 minutes. Even now, since reboot it's been about 3 hours, but cell standby is showing time on of just under 6 hours. My time without signal shows 51%. Might this have to do with a simple error in the "time on" amount, and it's calculating the % of no signal off of that?

If you're currently getting a low %, see if the "time on" matches the time since unplugged on the screen prior to that. Maybe this isn't a huge issue after all? I do find my battery life is very low, probably around 4 hours on heavy usage (Pandora, texting, web browsing)

Good question, I'll try to investigate this... I notice on an associates Droid-X that his "Time without Signal" is at 50% as well... Hummm Maybe it's an Android issue?

I've seen 50% Time without Signal on other Android phones, but 98%?? Do you live in an area with marginal coverage? Does this happen in all areas?? Have you tried turning on "Airplane" Mode to disable the Cell Radio and then turning Airplane mode OFF to turn the Cell Radio back on? Try pulling the Battery and leave it out for a minute, and replace it.

Let me know.

I tried it for the first time last night. It seemed like the percent time without signal went down for a bit, but this morning was actually at 100%! I decided a bit later to turn on wifi for the first time (I've only had the phone for about two weeks). Since this afternoon, I've been running consistently at 25% or well below. I don't know which of the changes made the difference, but I'm leaning toward wifi use rather than anything else.

Now, this morning I took the phone off the charger, put it in airplane mode, and powered it down. After about a minute, I restarted it and took it out of airplane mode. I then did my 50-minute drive to work, listening to podcasts on the phone the whole way. The trip is all highway with strong cell signals. When I got to work, my battery was at 83% and the usage showed a time without signal as 76%. I give up...

Humm sounds pretty high... I'll continue to look into it.

After reading this post I checked my time without signal was at 78%, I switched to airplane mode, shut the phone off for a few minutes, turned back on and switched airplane mode to off. When I checked my time without signal it was at 58%, now 7 1/2 hours later my time without signal is 0%.Don't know what it all means but thought I'd share the info.

Hello, I am new here. I got my LG Ally 7-5. I have been fighting the signal and standby/battery drain issues. In my home I have 100% time no signal and about 70% of battery used on Standby. I have done every fix I have found: *#*#4636#*#*, *228 (option 2), airplane at turn on, battery our/in. No changes that can be at all reliable. I show no or 1 bar of signal and drop calls frequently. When I leave home this is better but I absolutely must have the signal at home too. My little boy has diabetes and this is our lifeline.
I would think this just an issue with my house but my husband has the new Droid X and has a full signal: all bars, 10% or less no signal, and very little standby battery use. Also, internet seems to work fine on the Ally even when it shows no bars or signal. The battery, while inconvenient, is not my main problem. I REALLY need to have service. What advise do you have? I hate to spend more $$, really like the slide out keyboard and just want my phone to work. I don't want to be jealous of his phone but envy his service. Is there a difference in the antennae in the phones or is it a bug that can be fixed?

Any help would be GREAT!
