As I didn't find any discussion threads in this forum on what to do if a cell phone battery gets hot during charging, I will start this discussion here.

A properly charged battery and proper battery maintenance are essential components of any phone--cellular or cordless. The battery is the 'electronic heart;' when it fails, all phone functions stop. Knowing this, it's amazing how many of us take battery maintenance for granted--myself included at times. One key to the health and longevity of the battery is temperature. When a phone is left in a cold environment, the battery becomes sluggish and cannot keep a charge. Conversely, when the battery gets overheated and feels hot to the touch, the battery (or the charger) may be defective and needs to be replaced--this is what happened to mine recently.

Two things that are easy to do:
1. Read Patty Hahne's article on "http://hubpages.com/hub/Cell-Phone-Batterys" for an overview on batterys and ways to extend battery life.

2. Call Verizon Technical Support IMMEDIATELY if your battery feels unusually hot during charging. Any temperature higher than warm-to-the-touch is a symptom of battery and/or charger failure. If your battery is relatively new, chances are that Verizon will send you a new battery. BEFORE you use your new battery, READ Patty Hahne's article on the recommended battery conditioning prior to using your phone.

Good Information... If this happens call support before trying to charge again.
