I have been trying to use the built-in PPTP VPN client functionality in android 2.1 on my LG Ally. I have tried connecting to both a windows-based PPTP server and the Linux-based PoPToP PPTP server. I have had no luck. When I create a PPTP connection on the Ally then try to connect to the VPN server the only information shown below the VPN name is "Connecting..." and after a minute a window pops up stating, "Unable to connect to network. Do you want to try again" I have tried with/without encryption and setting a DNS search domain. |

Well, to be honest this is over my head... But here are some questions and comments from one of my engineers. * If you still can't connect the VPN on your Android phone try turning encryption "off" and see if it connects. Not using encryption might provide access to blocked content, as well as privatize your IP address, but it still isn't optimal for security, obviously. * He also asked about your IT Dept supplying Certificates? I'll try to get further explanation and details. |

I talked again with an Engineering Resource I have and it's looking like the Ally might have an issue doing what you need. I am escalating this issue and He is going back to his group to see if there is anything they can do to resolve this... I'm not sure what the answer will be, but I'll post as soon as I hear. |

It looks like it's an issue right now. I'm looking to whether there is a work around on not. I'll post if I find anything. |

I'm still poking around inside of LG, but I don't think we'll see anything until the next update is released, and I don't have a time frame for it's release. Hopefully it will be addressed in the update or at least in the Android 2.2 update. |

LG Pro: Thanks for looking into this issue for all of us. This is a big issue for me since right now there are no tun.ko drivers, which are used by openVPN, compiled for the Ally. Keeps us up to date and thanks again! |

I will... Maybe there will be something in the next LG update or the Android 2.2 update. I'll let you know if I find anything! |
