Has anyone else had a problem with Skype or Paypal apps since the v9 update? There are a few more apps that wont install or dont show up in the market since I got the v9 update. Just curious if anyone else has had this problem.

It looks like with Ver 8 and ver 9 that Skype is being filtered out so you can't see it... Let me see if I can find out why.

I'm seeing it in the market this morning. Under the Verizon tab, it's the first app listed: "Skype mobile". I have the Ver 8 update on my Ally.

Interesting... I have Ver 9 and it's still not showing up for me, but it is showing up on a Ver 8 phone I have access to. It looks like they are filtering the Apps based on the Software in the phone.

There are a few others as well, like Discover mobile or Alarm.com. They don't show up in V9 for me as well.

Is there a reason why?

Thanks!

I'm looking into why Apps aren't showing up. My guess is that to assure compatibility, they are Filtering for Specific Phones and apparently Software versions on the Phones as well...

Thanks for the Report!! Please let me know if you find others!

Thanks LG Product Pro.

How do we notify Google (Market) that LG Ally V9 is approved? I think that is the key here...

Thanks!

Not much so far other than it is getting attention. We're trying to decide the best way to resolve this issue... I would be curious to know how many people installed Ver 9?

Not sure how you would determine this by asking the question on the forum, but since LG pushed out the update (even if it was not intended to be so) I think as a company you would be responsible to support it. Otherwise you should have us bring the phones to Verizon and have us downgrade....

I am most concerned at this point that future updates will work on the phone rather then just a few apps not being available...

Thanks!

That's the approach I have taken. I did get a response saying that it's the V9 Firmware "FootPrint" that Google doesn't know about... So it's now back in our court. I'm making progress but I don't have an answer yet.

Agreed! We are aware of the issue and are working on a solution for those of you who got Ver 9. "Downgrading?" that is one option that is being talked about. Right now I feel confident that Service will handle them if a repair is needed.

Right now, other than several Apps not being installable on Ver 9 phones, Ver 9 is the same as 8. The problem with Ver 9 is that the Android Market recognizes phones by there "FootPrint" and each Phone and Firmware is registered and since this release didn't go through proper channels, Google doesn't recognize it for the store. As soon as the next release is available you'll be able to install it to OVERWRITE Ver 9.

Feel free to email me if you have other concerns you don't want to bring up to the Forum... But I have really told you all that I know right now. We have Development and Marketing involved so I'm confident you'll be taken care of if anything happens... I'll post when I hear something.

If you go to Androidforums.com in the ally section there is detailed instructions on downgrading to the V6 firmware.

Thanks LG Product Pro for all the info and your contact information. I just saw your post about the Froyo update which is great news, so I will assume that my V9 will get updated with the Froyo update when it comes out OTA, so I will wait for that. Thanks gndmepyon for the link, it looks promissing but I am weary of doing changes on my own at this point especially since the downloads are not directly from LG, considering that I am fine with the few missing apps and will just wait for the next update. I appresiate the insight and will save the directions just in case

Thanks!

@genkaaa, your welcome. Just for future reference. The V6 listed above was actually pulled from a pre-update Ally so it is technically from LG. The downgrading process uses LG's dev tool (how someone got a hold of that I'll never know) to force "update" the phone back to V6. Then within a few hours/days you get the OTA notice for V8.
