LEt me start with "I'm new to LG"... so I apologize in advance.

I just got my Fathom today and hooked it up to LGupdater to see if there are any updates for it before I start setting it up how I want it. After connecting it to the PC and opening up the update tool, it asks me to select a carrier and phone model. Unfortunately, Verizon isn't in the carrier list and Fathom/VS750 is not in any of the models for any carriers. I figured I might have the wrong updater so I uninstalled, then downloaded the updater specific to verizon found here - http://www.lg.com/us/mobile-phones/vwz-phone-software-update.jsp. Still no Verizon option. What am I missing?

I'm not aware of any updates that are available for the Fathom... However I can see why the updater tool is confusing. Even though the notes below the Upgrade instructions say that the Updater tool works with the Fathom, I don't see Verizon or the Fathom from inside the updater tool... I know that the Updater is "A Work in Progress" and it looks like they haven't added the Fathom portion yet.

I'll post when I see an update ready.

Very god question, since they are redoing the Updater, it will change how it operates, So I'm not sure.... However, I will post an announcement here on the site, and you should see a notification link on the Mobile Phone Support page as well. As soon as I hear anything I'll post the info and the link.

I also have noticed that ALL Verizon phones have been removed from the LG firmware update utility. Sorry LG Product Pro, but havng the entire range of Verizon phones totally disappear while other carriers remain is not a result of confusion or software engineering changes. Looks like Verizon has made a corporate level decision about future distributuion of firmware upgrades.

Humm I doubt it since Verizon is working with us on developing the Tool... However the tool seems to be going through "Stealth" Development and all I know is that it is active and being further developed., Your right the Verizon lineup is missing from the Support Tab... I'm looking into this, I'll report back what I find out.

Thanks for the Heads up.

I was just checking to see if there was an update for my eNv Touch, and noticed too that Verizon is now missing from the update tool. I used this before to update my Touch to the version 9 of the firmware. Is it because the update tool, updates itself each time it is launched?

It will be interesting to see how they updates are distributed... For the AT&T eXpo we just build an .exe file that you could download and install it that way... I'll post when I see an Update come through for the field.

I'll have to check on Win 7 Compatibility... I does seem to have an issue on Win7 right now... The "Update Tool" is a "Work in Progress" so I'm sure it will support Win7... Let me check and see if I can get an update.

I tested it on a 32 bit win 7 machine with no issues... It must not like 64 bit yet.

Hello,

I have tried for over 3 hours to update the Fathom. I downloaded the updater, installed the drivers, plugged the phone in, clicked on Start Update. I then got an alert saying that the COM is not available, to unplug the phone and plug it back in. This to me, is funny because the phone is displaying "Dowloading... Do not unplug!" The program states to install the driver, which updates the LG SP Modem driver from 1.0.0.0 (which was installed with the installation of the updater... why install this version if there is a new one anyway?) to 1.1.0.0.
I plug the phone back in (while still in download mode), and click on Start Update again. A new window comes up only to tell me that the phone does not support S/W update and to contact LG...
I've tried this process several times, trying it by soft reseting the device before getting to the first error, and then leaving it alone. No luck...
I am running the program on Windows 7 32-bit on an HP-311 Netbook 1.6GHZ processor, 2GB Ram.

Do you have Ver 5 of the Fathom Firmware installed? I ask becsue the installer isn't intelligent enough to check before the update starts so it always things an update is necessary. It's only when it completes the "Analyze" phase does it realize you are up to date and then should tell you that you don't need to update... You can check the Firmware version under "System Information"

It sounds like a conflict or something is occurring causing the Update process to get interrupted... Once the phone is in "Download" Mode it is pretty much a slave to the update process and not capable of determining it's status... So if you do loose connection with the Phone during the process and the process fails, then the Fathom is still waiting for instructions or the reboot command. The only thing you can do is to pull the battery on the Fathom and start over... I know, this doesn't comfort me either, since the updater utility has already warned us NOT to unplug the phone. But some how we have to give the Fathom control again.

Do you have ActiveSync (Or whatever it's called in WIn7) to the Fathom? Can you sync without interruption? I would make sure that your Netbook can talk with the Fathom without problems... You might also try a different PC? I have seen the update utility work with WIn7 but I have also heard of problems, I'm thinking are Win7 related

Let me know if any of this works.

Yeah, I was thinking it might be a cable issue. I double checked the S/W version on the phone to make sure I hadn't wasted 3 hours. It's still on ZV4. I'm going to try a different PC today (WIN 7 as well) with a different cable. I'm suprised VZW has not requested the DLL file so they can run the updates from their flash boxes in the store. From a consumer standpoint, the experience was not too pleasant. Fortunately, I enjoy a challenge, and I will get the software put in there even if it means me manually writing it in 01 by 01...

That was the issue I was having on my Windows 7 64 bit machine. When I switched to my company laptop which was running a 32 bit Windows 7 Pro it worked fine. Because of that I assumed there was an issue with 64 bit, but now I'm curious. Let us know how you fix it... and if I can think of any ideas to help I'll let you know.
