I just wanted to let everyone know that the Ver 8 update for the Ally is currently underway. Within the next Day or Two your Ally should prompt you to accept the Update which will bring your phone to the current level.

For those of you who saw the update come through, but declined it, the Verizon Server should retry your phone within the next day or two. I don't have the Delivery Schedule it's all done by region through Verizon....

*** This is NOT an Android 2.2 update. **** This is an update to the Ally for Android 2.1

Pro,
Do you have any release note on V8 and V9 that some of us grabbed for the LG site?

I don't have release notes for Ver 8 ... But it should be coming and I will post it when I get it... For this of you who got the other update from the updater utility, I don't have any information on it other than it contains all of the Ver 8 updates.

Unfortunately no, the Update can't be initiated on the User end... The good news is that it should retry your phone every few hours... This cycle Might be slower due to all of the updates going out right now.

You will be prompted again within the next few hours... Let me know if you don't see it.

I got the update about 4 am when I attempted to go to the market place. So I have had a full days use with it.
Right off the bat I noticed a change to the "Think Free Office App" icon, and the addition of a new "Corporate Calendar".
Also... My available system memory went from about 30megs to 85/90.
And I've gone all day with a full battery.
I have no errors to report. All apps seem to work fine.
The patch has improved the performance of the phone.

No because you are running a V# higher than what the update contains. The updater compares the version being pushed to the version number on you phone and uses a basic greater than equal to, trigger.

Not really. Pro said above that the v9 update contains everything that the v8 update does.

I just got the update but i dont see much of a difference except they changed an icon, added another calender could of put both together they look the same, and added verizons backup assistant don"t know why google backs it up already! Does seem a little smoother and manages memory better so far! Like to know what the update had in it? It did take about 5mb of user memory away i think!

How is the V9 update flawed? I've been using it since Saturday and my phone is working better than it was before the update. And that's saying something because my phone worked perfectly before. I've yet to have a freeze up or force close in the 6 weeks i've had the phone.

I agree completely. I've had no problems since upgrading and I've not heard anyone say anything about it being flawed. Pro warned (rightfully) that it might not be fully tested and wasn't an official release, but there is no evidence there is anything wrong with it. My phone also has worked better since applying it.

Im glad you and others have had success with the v9 update. However for me it is flawed. It hasnt helped my phone and in some insyances it has hurt it. I had to do a reset to get facebook to work right again and alot of my apps wouldnt install correctly. My battery life is still crap and I still have the 50% bug. But those of you that are having success good for you Im happy for ya. As for me Im screwed since the v8 is a lower version than I have and probably wont get it. But thats my fault.

I hate to tell you this, but if you are expecting an update to fix the 50% bug, you will be waiting for a long time. The 50% bug happens on all Android phones and there's nothing LG can do about it. That one has to be fixed by Google, which supposedly they did with Android 2.2, but which Ally users may or may not be getting.

If you were around at the end of the week, you noticed a flurry of messages back and forth concerning the update. I was trying to report information in real time, to keep everyone updated. I still don't know what state Ver 9 was in (Alpha, Beta, or pre-release or Released) So I didn't want it installed on the phones in the field... You can't undo an Update. So I tried to approach it with extreme Caution until I felt comfortable with it.

Long answer, Sorry. But as it now stands, Ver 9 is okay, it's just a Variation of Ver 8. Those of us who installed it will be fine.

If you would post any Ver 9 related comments or issues to the Forum, I'll pass them on to Development

Thanks Pro. I take full responsibilty for not waiting on the official release. I just wanted a less laggy phone. Unfortunately for me I now have a more laggy phone. Again my fault however I do wish there was a way to go back a version or at least put v8 over v9.thanks again for all you are doing for us.
