I don't know what happened, but now whenever I get a text it no longer plays the designated ringtone. Instead, it vibrates twice (even though I have vibration turned off). I have gone through every menu (messaging, notifications) I can think of and cannot seem to fix this. Please help me! Thank you. |

So what does your phone show when you go to Settings-Sound & Display settings-Notification ringtone. |

Underneath where it says "Notification ringtone" it says "Set your default notification ringtone" and when I go to the dropdown it says "Complete action using" and when I go to "select music" and "current ringtone" it shows the ringtone I selected for notifications. I used Ringdroid to create the tone and I made sure to save it as a notification. It was working earlier today, because I had been playing around with it and testing out different ringtones but all of a sudden it's decided not to play anything, only the two vibration bursts. |

Okay, playing around with it some more, I managed to edit some settings in the Handcent application and get the vibration off, but I still cannot get a tone to play when I get a text. I've tried using one of the Ally default ringers and one of my created ones and neither works. What is the deal here?! |

Have you tried Pulling the battery out? With the phone powered up, Pull the Battery and wait a minute then replace it and power back up. See if this helps... This is probably the oldest trick in the Cell Phone world but also surprisingly effective. Let me know. |

This did work, and thankfully it's stayed the same. Now I am having a problem with the ringtone seeming to 'skip'. I think it is because two different SMS apps (Messaging and Handcent) are receiving the messages almost simultaneously. I went in and disabled sound for the Messaging app but it is still doing this. What am I doing wrong? I'm getting frustrated, which sucks, because I love this phone. |

Okay, I have uninstalled Handcent and it is still 'skipping' the ringtone... not to mention playing an entirely different tone than the one I selected in my settings. Frustrating! |

Have you tried rebooting after the uninstall? Is it something in the Cache or internal memory? I'm trying to get a handle on the sound issues. So far, on the Ally I have here, I have not seen the disappearing notification tones. I have seen confusion and conflicts when something like Handcent or DG Alerts is installed, but they have been minor and I'm not sure how to get around issues when you have two applications trying to handle the same process... But I'll continue to look. |

I am having the same issue with my Ally. All was fine for a couple of days then it lost the notifications. A soft reboot fixes it for a bit then gone again. |

Have you added any applications to your Ally? Are you using an App like "Handcent" or "DG Alerts"? I'm interested in seeing if one of these is effecting the Notification Tones... |

Not that this is the solution, but does Rebooting help?? I have reported this to Development, I'll try to get an answer for those who are seeing this. |

My phone is doing the exact same thing. Verizon told me to download DG Alert, which worked for a short time. Now that isn't even working. The phone does vibrate when I get a text and the LED lights up. But I get no ringtone at all. A reboot does seem to help, but it only lasts about 30 to 45 minutes before they stop ringing again. Email notifications and all other ring tones are fine. It only seems to be for the texts. My room mate has the exact same phone and has had it about a week longer than I have and has no problems at all. |

Humm this isn't good... This is an issue I'm trying to chase down for other users as well... Have you tried pulling the Battery out for a minute or two and then replacing it and powering back up? Even though it seemed to work for you initially, I now think Notification sound utilities like DG Alert might complicate the issue. I have temporarily removed them from my phone. Try Pulling the Battery and let me know if that does any good... I'll keep looking on this end. |

I did pull the battery yesterday and it did seem to help but about an hour later the notifications stopped playing again. I was beginning to think it was a problem playing the ringtones from my SD card however it has also been doing the same thing with the on board tones as well. And I tried another SD card with the same results. Verizon did offer to replace the phone but they stated that it may still not work on a new phone as well. I'd rather not do that since I have this phone set up already (and I've only had it for a week now). My work-around has been to turn the notification vibrate on, this way it will at least vibrate and the LED will alert me when I have a new text. |

Let me work on it from my side.... I'm not convinced that a Full on Reset will help. Thanks for the Feed Back. |

I have had my phone since it came out and I am also having the same problem. It has cost me some very important text messages. It will ring for a while and then it is gone. You have to restart your phone every time to get the ringer back, but then a while later it is gone again. Very annoying. I should have bought an iphone. My phone is also constantly alerting me about my SD card. There is nothing wrong with my SD card, but it always tells me it is doing something to it. Can't remember the exact message. If this ringer problem isn't fixed soon I am going to demand Verizon take my phone back and I am getting an Iphone. There is no reason for the Ally to have such a serious problem and it not be addressed or fixed by now. |

I, too, am a new LG Ally owner and having the same problem. I have tried everything suggested (many thanks, btw) to no avail. I'm hoping that some sort of resolution will be coming soon. |

Sorry for the inconvenience, but a patch should be coming soon. I'm seeing the sound issue in another brand of Android phone I have in my Lab, so I think it has to do with Android 2.1 ... It should get fixed in the next update, or at least the Android 2.2 update coming at a later date. |
