I cannot get my calendar to sync with my new Ally. Email and contacts work fine. I have read other forumn topics on this and it seems like this has been a known issue for some time. Is there a fix available that doesn't require buying a third party product. The specs on the phone prior to purchase state that Exchange support is available.

You're correct... Currently the Ally and Android 2.1 supports Exchange Email and Contacts. The lack of Calendar event Syncing is something that came up in Android 2.1... We are working on a resolution and it should be available "soon." This way it won't require you to purchase an Application to Sync your exchange calendar. I'll post something as soon as I hear any specific news.

While I am waiting for an update, I'm using Google Calendar sync which seems to work okay for my exchange calendar needs...

I apologize for any inconvenience, but it shouldn't be long before there is an update.

There is a patch that will address this issue that is being released into Verizon's Labs for there testing, with in the next week or so... Dates can slip, but I feel pretty good about this one... The problem is that they are rolling other 'Fixes' into the patch so they need to do regression testing to make sure it doesn't break anything else. I will let you know when I hear a tentative date for it to be pushed out to the field.

Yesterday (7/20), I received a software update which installed "Corporate Calendar" on my Ally. The sync error message has disappeared, but I still cannot see my Exchange 2003 calendar items...

I noticed the same thing as well after the V8 update. The Corporate Calendar icon appeared and sync error message disappeared. However, the Corporate Calendar does not function as I hoped it would. Creating an appointment in Outlook or OWA does not sync to the Ally. Creating an appointment on the Ally will sync to Outlook and OWA though. However, if I create additional appointments on the Ally, the appointments created earlier disappear from Outlook leaving only the last appointment created.

Are you able to reproduce the behavior that I'm seeing?

Yes, the Corp Sync on the Ally I have will Sync from the phone to the PC, but only a handful of events are going back to the phone... I'm Checking my Outlook settings to see if I've missed anything.

I will report this!! Thanks for the feedback

Kind of...
- Pre-existing or new appointments from Outlook/Exchange 2003 don't sync to the Ally.
- The first appointment I created on the Ally "Corporate Calendar" sync'ed to Outlook/Exchange, but two subsequent test appointments (including a test meeting request) did not.

By the way, I also tried completely removing my "Corporate" account from my Ally earlier today, and re-adding it to no avail.

I'm sure that my Exchange servers are functioning properly, and that I'm using the correct settings on the Ally (I manage the corporate e-mail system). Clearly, the Ally app is buggy, and not usable in its current state.

I'll probably try to call Verizon support this afternoon, but I'm not optimistic (especially after getting nowhere with LG's support last week). If LG/Verizon doesn't get a patched version out soon (or give substantive indications that a patch is coming), I may be springing the $20 for TouchDown (and pressing Verizon to credit me the cost, since their device doesn't work as advertised).

Will post any updates...

The updating of Corporate Calendar from Exchange is "iffy" at best ... at first all of my calendar events from Exchange were on my Ally ... including a conference call with a European client scheduled for this evening. I added another call for 4:00 pm on my Exchange calendar and not only did the NEW event not show up on Corporate Calendar but the call to Europe is now gone. Also, a co-worker's 2 day "all day" vacation scheduled for Monday/Tuesday is showing as 3 days, Monday/Tuesday/Wednesday, on Corporate Calendar. Can't depend on the calendar on the phone so it's pretty much useless. I'm a software user interface architect by trade. I'd be out of work if I delivered this. I realize that there was a lot of pressure to deliver on this, but these are obvious things.

I've noticed a couple of Sync issues myself.... I've reported this and I'm looking into it.

Exchange sync is another well documented Android 2.1 problem. It is not an Ally problem. The issue has been solved in 2.2.

Very true. Some device manufacturers have added their own apps to correct the Sync problem. As far as I know, the original Moto Droid has a Motorola provided Corporate Calendar app that syncs Exchange Calendars without issue.

With the version 8 OTA Ally update that Verizon began releasing this week, a new LG provided app called "Corporate Calendar" has been installed. This app (if it worked correctly) would allow a 2.1 Ally to natively sync with an Exchange Calendar. Unfortunately the implementation is buggy at best. Non functional from my perspective.

Even with 2.2 resolving the Exchange Calendar sync issue - it's a nonstarter at this point. We can't assume that the Ally will see 2.2.

As a BlackBerry Curve convert, I love the Ally in nearly every way. The exception being that my corporate email isn't nearly as robust as it was on the BlackBerry. Sadly, the lack of Calendar support email signatures is causing me more pain than I'd initially anticipated.

Okay, I just spent 1.5 hours talking with Verizon Wireless, then LG, then VZW again and got...nowhere.

First VZW tech said that they did not have any information from LG documenting that this is a known bug. She also stated that since it's a software/device issue, it's LG's responsibility.

LG tech was sympathetic (of course, I'm thinking customer service folks are trained to sound sympathetic these days...), and was aware of the issue. But he stated emphatically that although LG's name is on this phone, LG does not sell phones. The hardware and software are developed to the specs of the wireless carrier (according to him), and VZW also puts their own software tweaks into the device before it gets to the consumer. He also said that alll known issues are reported to VZW.

The next VZW tech had heard of the issue, and suggested that it's because I'm not using their "corporate" data service on my phone. I argued with him, but agreed to test it--that didn't work. He then proceeded to tell me that it's really Google's responsibility, since they develop and release the patches. Of course, there's no way for me to call Google...

Did some more web search and found this workaround: http://androidforums.com/motorola-droid/14592-corporate-calendar.html#post107552

Gonna give it a try.

Let us know if this work around helps.... I'm looking into the Corp Calendar Sync issue here.

Not a rumor. It was a patch released for manual DL by Lg for a couple days before the OTA update pushed. V9 has since been pulled from the manual updater. If you don't already have it you can't get it. Also, the calendar doesn't sync with V9 either.

It was a big vacation week last week, but I expect to have everyone back this week so I should be able to get an update on the Corp Calendar.

Ver 8 is the current update... There was a short lived Ver 9 but basically it was Ver 8... Sorry for the confusion.
