How to create ringtones from mp3 files using Bitpim



1. Use any mp3 conversion software to convert your songs to mp3 format. And store them in a easily accessible place on your computer.

2. In Bitpim, open the Ringers page and click the Add New Ringer icon on the tool bar.

3. When the Choose Files box appears, select the file where you have your mp3s stored.

Note: If the song you are selecting still has the folder icon and not the musical note icon next to it, it still needs no be converted to MP3 format.

4. With the Convert Audio File box shows up in Bitpim, change the Sample Rate to 32000, the Channels to Stereo (2), and the Bit Rate to 64. Then press Convert.

5. When you can, press Play Clip to hear the song.

6. Select a 25 30 second clip using the pink and red markers.

7. Preview the ringtone by clicking Play Clip and readjust the markers if needed.

8 Click OK to create the ringtone.

Note: Bitpim will automatically add the ringtone to your Ringers page.

9. To send the new ringtone to your phone, click Send Phone Data, click ringtones, and click OK.

Bitpim makes use of a helper app to convert the mp3 files to a desireable length, etc. I have found that even on machines with high resources, it runs too slow for my taste. Instead, use a free app like Audacity or Wavepad to trim the ringer and make any adjustments to the bit rate, etc. Then when you hit the button to add a ringer in Bitpim, hold shift to bypass the conversion/trimming utility. This can make things much faster, and gives you finer control over your final product.

Yeah, it seemed pretty slow. is audacity a freeware as well?

Has anyone figured out how to unlock the Dare yet? I noiced that the item was blocked by Verizon

There was a new Bitpim test release on July 24th. However, when I tested it with my Dare it wouldn't work. I logged a ticket with the Bitpim development team. It was probably just that they pushed the wrong code. I'm sure it won't be long. Hang tight!!

I'm new to verizon came over from alltel. I want to install songs from my computer as ringtones to my LG Env Touch. can anyone help me?

How would one perform this function with a Macbook? I have a Macbook and env3 phone.

I got an ENV3 yesterday, and have a MacBook as well. Any suggestions for how to make ringtones will be appreciated.

I tried Bitpim but it is entirely too cumbersome. And it wouldn't recognize my LG VX8360 as a valid model.

I found an awesome way to make your own ringtones.

First get Audacity with the LAME plugin.

Then use your laptop (if Bluetooth capable) pair your phone with your laptop, then right-click the file you created with Audacity and choose "Send to..." choose "Bluetooth Device" from the list and you can send as many sounds as you have memory for.

PhoneZoo is a good choice.... BitPim can be initially a little overwhelming, but pretty simple once you get going. BitPim hasn't been updated since Jan of this year so It doesn't recognize the newer phones,,, If you set Bitpim to use the VX8350 as a Template it will work just fine on the VX8360.

BitPim recognizes the EnV Touch, it seems that this program is the only way to get true 128k+ quality ringtones on the phone. PhoneZoo clips transfer to poor quality on the phone.

If you signup for PhoneZoo (Free) and then go to MyPhoneZoo you can set the 'Quality' of the ringtones to high... I haven't taken the time to see what that means but I fo have mine set to high... Have you tried that?

Yes and they are sent high quality but the phone converts them to a lower quality when saving.

I downloaded ringtones from myxer.com that aren't working. Do you know how I can delete them?

Which phone do you have? How are the ringtones failing? Do they not play or can't you find them? I have seen both happen.

When you go to settings and then Sound and Display, do you see the ringtones listed? Have you checked the Music Folder? If you can find them you should be able to delete them using the options menu.

Let me know which phone you have.
