I'm having the same problem with my env touch, I'm still in my return period thank god and from what I've heard they have no intention of fixing it on this phone. I'm betting it will be fixed on the env touch 2 so we have to buy a new phone. Four, 4 software updates and not a single one to fix this huge problem...Alot of ppl use t9, alot....regardless of having a full querty keyboard...It is easier, safer, and more convient in some circumstances such as doing dishes or paying bills online with your right hand on the mouse...haha...This phone is advertised as having it all...so it needs to have it all. It seems like the phones recently are getting too rushed... I used to LOVE LG and brag so much about them when I had my chocolate...it had it all but locked up often from txt'ing while listening to music, but I still loved it.

"over this piece of crap!"
The enV Touch is hardly a piece of crap. And your post brings nothing to the party! And why you guys are concerned about T9 when there is a full QWERTY keyboard is way beyond some of us!

Possibly you should chill until there is a software update.

I know.... people are over reacting and putting down GREAT phones! And the main reason a person buys a phone like the enV Touch and enV 3 is to have the full qwerty key- board so they don't have to use T-9 word. So what is the problem?

I luv how people can't back anything of what they say on here up, n just try to completely defend these obviously overlooked features without any data to support them, or in this case choose to leave things out. I am willing to speculate that the two previous posters are nothing more than LG employees just from how they act!

FACT 1: Just b/c the phone has a full qwerty is IRRELEVANT! COMPLETELY! The Touch HAS the ability to text from the outside screen, as does the env3, but some people refuse to acknowledge that fact!

FACT 2: The Voyager titanium which is what the touch is built off of HAS the ability to learn words and is fully T9 capable! If your argument is that the touch has a QWERTY, I think I just shot that IRRELEVANT point down, and backed my point n everyone else with a FACT!

FACT 3: The Glance is NOT a qwerty phone and it can not learn T9 words. CAN YOU EXPLAIN THAT?

FACT 4: The ability to learn T9 words has been a basic, and fundamental feature on LG phones for years, alot of people have already stated that, how and why would that be over looked? CAN YOU EXPLAIN THAT?

FACT 5: I have proven in my first post that this problem has been known to LG for almost 9 months now, as was reported in Howard Fourms. I guess that information is beyond their comprehension, or they chose to IGNORE THAT FACT TOO! CAN YOU EXPLAIN THAT FACT?

I challenge the two previous posters to back up their words with facts! " And your post brings nothing to the party! " either just unsupported irate talk!

I doubt that anyone, even an LG employee can dispute my facts, unlike some people I did do the research on this issue!

HAVE A NICE DAY!

Negative those posts are not LG employees, and everyone on this forum has their right to an opinion thats why we have this forum. LG is aware of the T9 issues and is looking into them. As soon as I hear something I will let you know.

I seem to be able to save new words on my phone... I went to abc mode, typed in the word I wanted, switched to T9 word, hit space, and then tried typing the word in T9 word and it typed the word I added. I even tested closing the message and starting a new one and it was still there.

Give it a few hours, the word will be gone. That's the issue, it saves the words for a few hours at the most, but then wipes them out for no reason.

Umm, what? And if you're asking what I think you're asking, why would you want to do that? And why ask in this thread?

I was getting ready to buy 2 of these phones until I did a little research and found out about this issue as well as some others regarding the enV Touch. I am SO glad I did not buy these phones. My wife is a textaholic and LG would have incurred her wrath if she had to deal with this issue.

Does anyone know if a software update is in the very near future for the Touch to fix the T9 issues and other multiple issues? I like the phone but the T9 issue really bugs the crap out of me. I got 30 days to return this phone. If a fix isnt going to happen to fix the T9 im definately gonna return it. Ill go back to my Voyager. lol

I think I know why they disabled the T9, and I am kind of all for it. Here's why-

The ONLY reason you need to use T9, unless you are just too lazy to open the keyboard, is because you are driving and texting at once and you want to be able to single-handedly type.

TWO separate idiots rear-ended me last month because this "phenomena".

Insurance rates are sky-rocketing, people are getting seriously hurt out there, so I am kind of behind the disability of the T9. If you are driving, you should be driving, NOT texting. Otherwise... open up the @#!$ flip!

Hi

I previously had the LG Chocolate and it also did not learn words. I purchased the ENV3 without realizing it had the same issue.

First I've had other phone models and continue to come back to LG so thank you for all the great phones. However, a huge reason I got rid of the Chocolate was the T9 function. Guess what it didn't have a QWERTY keyboard - so why was the feature disabled then??

Second, the QWERTY keyboard is great most of the time but having the ability to learn words is a feature my Nextel free phone had 7 years ago, so to downgrade in some ways seems ridiculous, which I believe is the point most of us are trying to make.

Third, call me lazy but when typing long words, say, Tatianna and I can type "tat" into the t9 and hit next - I'm excited. Or when I'm giving directions and don't have to type out my full address each time but it learns it is great.

Fourth, most other model phones with the QWERTY keypad also learn words so when beginning to type any word a drop down screen shows up and you can choose your next word or continue typing. Fine take away the T9 but then add that feature.

Fifth, call me a loser but I teach and the fact that when using the QWERTY keyboard it won't capitalize automatically or have easier access to punctuation irritates me. It can be easier to text "grammatically correct" using the T9.

Sixth, if you have no problem with the issue the thread is based on could you please stop posting, it seems as though you are just trying to be mean or bother us. Believe me, if we are posting about this we are already irritated and don't need the aggravation.

Thank you

Previous post was based on this post - I believe the third time you posted that you didn't understand why we would use T9 with QWERTY keyboard.

Also, to add another point. I believe most of us would "chill" if we knew a new update to fix the problem was going to happen. However I let Verizon and LG know about the Chocolate back in November of 08 and there was never an update for and it's going on a year.

Because it is much easier for LG to go this route disabling it on all phones; if they didn't., it would be way harder for them to ignore the requests to put it back. If it was already in some models but not others(qwerty phones), there would be absolutely no sane reason not to update it across all models. By disabling it in all models, they have a cohesive new "ban" with no room for ambiguity.

Just FYI that the Touch does have a similar feature. It doesn't "learn" words that you type often but it does suggest a word based on what you're typing.

To set this setting go to Messaging>Settings>Text Entry Settings and click on Show Candidate and Word Prediction. That will at least suggest a word based on a built in dictionary, but it won't "learn" words that you often type. That might help you a bit until they hopefully add this feature with an update.
