The enV Touch is capable of playing rtsp aac radio streams from the internet. What bothers me is that the entire time the rtsp radio stream is playing the phone keeps the lcd screen on! I tried changing the back light settings but it seems that whenever a rtsp stream is played the phone screen settings are ignored. My guess is that the phone was programmed this way because of mobile YouTube. When playing a video the screen and the back light have to stay on for better user experience. While this is understandable for video, there is no reason the screen has to stay on for audio only content! This would not matter if I was using AC power, but the battery gets drained so quickly because not only is the phone streaming data but the screen just stays on even though it is not needed at all!

The only way to fix this problem is to have the lg firmware programmers fix this for the next update:

1: Make the display "backlight off" setting universal for the entire phone at all times. The "backlight off" setting is currently only allowed for the internal screen and should also be allowed for the external screen. Currently even with the backlight off the backlight still powers on when a message is received and then powers off again. The backlight also powers down when charging the phone but then spontaneously powers on sometimes at night for no reason. This is unacceptable. The backlight settings should adhere to the will of the user at all times.

2: The phone knows when "audio only" streams are being played off the internet. Have the phone turn off whichever screen is in use when an audio only rtsp stream is being played. This will dramatically cut the power consumption when streaming radio from the internet. The phone shuts the screen down when playing audio files in the music player so how should this be any different. I am tired of how the screen always stays on when I listen to rtsp audio streams.

Thank you very much. If this issue was fixed then it would make the enV Touch a much better phone than it is now. Still, the enV Touch is the best non smart phone that you can currently get from Verizon.
