I certainly hope that the 2.2 Froyo update comes out for the LG Ally for LG's sake. I don't think any one would argue that cell phones are pretty much the most contested, heated, exciting and competitive electronics on the market today. LG's reactions to consumer wants as well as other companies drive for better updates for their current models of phones is in plain view across the entire technology media market. The announcement that the LG Ally getting 2.2 will show current LG consumers as well as others that LG plans of being "in it with the other boys" when it comes to current and future cell phones. I fully believe that the LG Ally with its physical keyboard stands out as a great Android phone beside its competitors. If the LG Ally does not get the 2.2 update, I know that I for one being a LG Ally user will be disappointed that in a sea of great phone competitiveness I chose a phone and company that is willing to lag behind when it comes to future features, which will certainly impact my future cell phone purchases as well as my opinion of LG as a brand. Fingers crossed. Thank to LG Product Pro for responding on these forums and shedding some light to us! |

As true as that is, it hasn't stopped other companies like HTC from completely skipping updates. IE The HTC Eris. It launched with 1.6 on it and didn't get the update to 2.x until mid-may. Why, because they were working on the Incredible and they believed that having a phone running 2.1 would hurt initial launch sale of the Incredible. A phone that is still on backorder on Verizon's webpage. So they held off on updating Eris until Incredible had been out for 2 weeks. I like Lg phones a great deal. I love my Ally. But they are still a business. With Verizon launching 4g later this year and the looming release of Droid X and Droid 2 as well as whatever HTC has up their sleeve for 4g/Christmas Season I'm sure the R/D team is much more focused on getting new HW ready to compete that working on (what they see as) an unnecessary update just to make people happy isn't on the top of their priority list. As for 3.0 (should be released in October) I expect we will see an HTC like approach. Once the new phones launch with 3.0+LG's custom interface then Ally will see it as well. |

Time for the jury to decide if the ALLY will get Android 2.2. With many devices enering the market, including from LG, the ability to migrate a phone OS to the next release is a requirement for most users while withing a 2 year phone agreement. I chose the LG ALLY for the form, function, and Andriod 2.1 over a Microsoft or Apple based device and hope this will not push me back to something else. |

I agree, and I'll keep you posted. But I'm afraid that the Ally might not be able to run 2.2... I haven't heard ANYTHING either way, but some of the conversations I have heard in the last week make me speculate on the chances for the update. |

I'm sorry but this is a mess of a post. You think it might not be able to run 2.2 which means you heard or know some technical information that would limit the phone from being able to be updated. Then you state you haven't heard anything either way. I take it you mean you haven't heard any information if the LG Ally is going to get 2.2 or not. Then you state that "conversations I have heard" speculate on the chances for the update. If you can please clarify your statement because maybe its just me, but I"m confused. |

Not just you Dolgo. This needs to be settled once and for all. LG has announced at least 2 new Android 2.2 phones so the LG ALLY will be old news at the same time Verizon is pushing them to customers. |

You're right that was very unclear. Right now everything is very "Fluid" things are changing day to day, nothing is certain, it's just the way it is. That's one of the reasons I don't talk much about future releases because anything and everything can change in a day. So the information I was trying to convey, was that as of the day of the posting, based on information I had that day, it's not looking very hopeful that the Ally will get a FroYo upgrade. No its not for sure, ANYTHING can Change... But right now it's looking like the lack of Memory could be an issue. I'm not trying to make an official announcment I was just trying to answer a specific question. So I am trying to help but I'm being intentionally Vague I'm caught in the middle between what I can and Can't say on a public Forum and this is NOT an official statement. I'm trying to help, One user to another. Are there more Android Phones announced for Verizon? No. There are at least two Android phones rumored to be released this year, but chances are they won't come to the States if they do it might be to different carriers. Right now the Ally is our Verizon Android phone. It's meant to introduce the masses to Smart Phones and of Course Android. Yes there are features in 2.2 we are all looking forward to, so I was a little let down as well. but I thoroughly LOVE the Ally and what Android 2.1 can do for me. The comments you post here are all sent to LG Development and Marketing, so let me know how you feel, AND I will pass them on. BUT don't shoot the messenger.... I've probably said too much already. |

Thanks for the clearing that up. We know you are trying to be the voice but the voice that can't say everything. I appreciate you keeping us informed even if its something that you can't quite talk about. Many companies don't respond or talk about their products issue/needs at all, so I am thankful. I think most of us should take your comment as a notion and not an absolute that the LG Ally is NOT getting the update, which is unfortunate, but if the phone can't have it on a technical level then there is not much we can do about it. Still love my phone and crossing fingers. |

I appreciate your position LG Pro and by no means am trying to shoot the messenger. I love the LG ALLY and probably will get a couple more for my kids. It just does not make sense to release a device 1 month before Android 2.2 is out that will not support the upgrade. What does happen in the next coming months when LG brings the LG Optimus One and LG Optimus Chic to the US? Will the ALLY instantly be outdated and forgoten in terms of upgrades. Being in technology over 30 years I completely understand how much change there is in hardware software and capabilities of such but in 2010 no device should be released of any kind that does not have the capability to be upgraded at least once during the 2 year contract period. If nothing more than to keep customers happy until their next device upgrade. Just my 2 cents. Thanks for listening and passing on our concerns. |

Not to keep making my point or create a problem for LG PRO but has LG announced an "LG ALLY like" device that will deliver with Android 2.2 and potentially upgrade to 3.0? If this is true then LG should be upfront with LG ALLY owners and those potential owners that 2.1 is the only release for this phone. I for one with this knowledge would hold off on any new device until Andriod 3.0. This is not an issue about having the latest and greatest as much as resolving known issues that should have been accounted for in the LG ALLY device design. |

Do you have a link or can you tell me where I might find information on an "LG ALLY like" Device? I am very curious... I can say that there are a couple more phones rumored, but if they make it to the states at all, Verizon is NOT one of the carriers rumored to take them... If they come! That's what I love and hate about this industry... RUMORS. In my experience in the Wireless World, and not with LG, I've seen phones sitting in individual store stock rooms waiting to launch, only to be returned to the manufacturer the day before the supposed launch. Things change in a heart beat... Let me know what you find. |

" LG will be introducing approximately 10 new smart devices worldwide in the second half of this year under the LG Optimus label..." (Quote from http://www.boygeniusreport.com/2010/07/05/lg-android-tablet/) Thanks for the Link, this is very interesting!!! However, My fear is that WorldWide means Non-US Market :-( But I still stand by what I said yesterday.... I'll let you know what I can, when I can. Thanks again. |

Hmm, interesting news but the future does not sound good for Ally owners. Yet we do not have all the facts yet. So I will wait and see. Though if it does not get 2.2, I am going to have many upset customers. *sigh* |

Agreed, I'm not looking forward to catching all of those 'arrows' (Frustrated Comments) but LG need to know. Android 2.1 is a good operating system and offers a lot of value. I'm looking forward to an LG patch for the Outlook Calendar Sync issue, but then the Ally WILL do all that I need it to, and it does it well! I'll keep you updated. |
