OK folks.............

I went into Verizon today and in speaking to the man I was working with, I asked he point blank if the Ally was going to get the 2.2 update. His response was a look me in the eye YES. He said they had a meeting about it and the Ally will be getting the OTA update.
Just passing along what was told to me.

Thanks for the report, that would be good news... However not to put a damper on any spirits, but I think the rep was mistaken....

If anybody has ANYTHING in writing, will they pass it on to me?

Thank you for the feedback. Launcher pro works wonders. Just doing what I can to keep the ally from slowing down. So why is the ally not considered a high end android device?

The Processor is a lttle slower than a High end Device, it doesn't have a dedicated Graphics Processor, and the Memory is a little Limited...

I love the phone and it does the things I need it to do... It's just fun.

Pro if you believe the rep was mistaken does that mean you are saying the Ally isn't getting 2.2 then? Do you know something more?

Well no not really or I would have reported it... Only internal rumors and, as of LAST NIGHT, the possibility that it could be mid to late Aug before we have an answer. Which isn't easy to hear but, right now, it means that it's not a Definite NO.

Those of you holding on to the Ally waiting to make a decision, I'd hate to loose you, but I know your 30 days are almost up. I appreciate you hanging with me this long.

I will get you info as soon as I can.

If the Ally doesn't get the 2.2 update, then is there any point to keeping the phone? Does the internet on the Env3 work just as well as the Ally? They are both 3G right? I'm coming off of a Blackberry Curve that wasn't even 3G so to me, anything is already faster then that if it's 3G.
I use the internet rarely on my phone. I use my phone for email, talking and texting mostly. If the Ally isn't going to be considered an upgradable phone then it seems just on the same level as the Env3 or some of the other non-droids, no?

So I have 2 of these ally phones. Is it true that I would have to pay 2 $35 restocking fees plus the price of whatever 2 phones I decide on. I didn't have to pay a restocking fee before when I. Had an env2 and switch to a voyager before the 30 days was up

After my phone started having reboot issues and I was just on my 30th day, I ditched the Ally and got the Moto Droid. It'll be here by Tuesday. I'll still be around the forum from time to time since my wife still has her Ally. Best of luck on getting 2.2.

Oh and Pro you may want to let the Dev team know that as I predicted they are losing customers. I have personally talked to and seen 10 people returning the Ally because of bugs and getting the Droid or Droid X.

Ok I was wrong. Went past my 30 days yesterday. So I'm keeping my 2 ally phones. So I guess I have 2 years to see what this thing can do. I hope the ally does not get left behind in the android world.

Yes I returned 2 Allys and was advised of the $35.00 restocking fee for each. Back to the old LG 8300 and iPod touch combo for now. I will set on the sidelines and monitor a while before jumping back into the smart phone arena. Will see how the 2.2 upgrade plays out. Monitoring Incredible and X for now.

I am new to this whole smartphone thing but have been following this for a few days now. I am almost at my 30 days and wondering why I should keep this phone. I am enjoying it and I figured it out! It seems to do what I need right now(worried about 6 months from now). What is 2.2 in basic terms what will we be gaining from this? I dont really understand. I bummed because I bought the Ally because of the design its not as big and bulky as a moto droids and love the keyboard missing from the Incredible. My fear by keeping this phone that by the time I can upgrade again this phone will be a dinosaur! After all we are all paying the extra $30 per month is this going to worth it soon?? I dont understand why this is such a big secret, just tell us. Its kind of crazy!

I'm having reboot problems, too. The phone will occasionally freeze up (when I plug in the charger, for example) and reboot.

Honestly, I'd return the phone if I could, but I can't... I'm sort of stuck with this one until my contract is up, anyways. Of course, 2.2 would not only give it a significant speed increase due to the compiler change and other optimizations, but would probably fix a ton of bugs.

Oh, and the Moto Droid is getting 2.2. 550MHz CPU and 256 RAM. The Ally has a 600MHz CPU (although a different arch) and 256 MB RAM.

The phone can run 2.2. LG not pushing Froyo onto the Ally would be intentional (for lack of a better word), not because the phone wouldn't be able to handle it.

The big difference between the Droid One (officially getting 2.2 this coming week) and the Ally is likely the Ally's lack of a GPU when it comes to tech capabilities.

People are saying that the TMobile MyTouch 3g is even getting 2.2 and that thing has less capacity than the Ally. I don't know why the Verizon dude I talked to yesterday would lie to me. He isn't going to make money off me b/c I already have the phone by telling me it IS getting 2.2, but if he did lie, I will not patronize that particular Verizon store anymore...

htc mytouch is getting it because htc is the company that android does all their testing on so it was designed for them first i honestly don't see a reason why the ally wouldn't get 2.2. The only reason it wouldn't is if LG decided not to do their software package and release it. With multiple verizon phones getting the update there is no reason for verizon not to put it on the ally. The only thing holding it back is customizing the LG themed software and skins for 2.2

I've been watching this topic for weeks in hope to see the Ally to get the 2.2. I just want LG I would be very disappointed if the Ally does not get upgraded, being such a newer phone. I plan to take that into consideration when my time comes for a new phone.
