And i still cant get the vibrate functions from haptatic keyboard or ringers to work. He needs the vibration stuff back for work. If i cant figure it out it will have to be returned as nonfunctioning so unless im totally missing something PLEASE HELP!

So No sounds at all, and no Vibrate? That's not good... You have done reset twice, have you tried a Battery pull as well?

I'm trying to chase down the Disappearing Ring/Notification sounds but totally missing all sounds is odd.

Just a couple of simple things I need to ask, sorry....

* Have you tried Pressing and holding the Power Off button for a second or so to get the Phone Options menu to pop up? The top item is "Silent Mode" that is set to off?

* The Sound Slider on the unlock screen isn't Yellow is it?

* Battery Pull?

* Have he installed any apps on the Ally?

* Has he tried exchanging the Phone?

This is the first one I have seen where Ver 8 kills the sounds, totally

Let me know what you find out.

It actually has all sounds thankfully since when we took the phone to the Verizon center they told us we had to wait ~two days as they are mailing one to us as they had none in stock anymore.

As to your questions:

*Yes i have pulled the slider and unlike my ally the haptic feedback unlike on my phone to not react even though they are turned on.

*Yes i have pulled the battery and left it out for over an hour on thursday evening(the first night he noticed it)

*Apps were installed as well as the Over The Air update however wiped it 2 times now with the in OS Privacy factory reset and one time with the phone off press volume down home and power button style of reset

*Phone is now in the process of being exchanged when we send it back to verizon would there be some notification when we mail it back that you would want on i assume the box we have to send it in with that you would want so you can see if it would have you figure out what happened (for your sake)?

Hi, I've also had the vibration stop since the OTA I believe.
I had one phone. We'll call that the original phone. It did not have ver 8. I had an unrelated problem with it so the store offered to send out a new one. The new one came out and immediately had trouble with vibration. The thing is that it was intermittant. It wouldn't work sometimes, but one person at the store got it to work with a battery pull, and it would also start on its own. I thought it had to do with the phone. So, sent that one back and the new one won't vibrate either. The only thing I can think is that it's the update.
I really need it because I'm blind and the haptic lets me know when things are selected ETC. Any way to roll back the update? Any fix on the horizon? Or should I send this one back too?

Although it's not really an "approved" method, there is a way to reload the V6 upgrade. It's listed over at Androidforums.com

Good information... HoweverI'd only try this if you are an EXPERIENCED user and if you decide to do this, use with Caution!

Thanks for the post

I'm sorry for the experience so far, the Ally has been great for me... At this point I don't have any quick solutions for you, I can understand how much you rely on the phone's Haptic Feedback...

I have a couple of questions

* Do you have any Sound applications like HandCent or DG Alerts installed on the phone?

* Do you have any Apps, other than the Pre-installed apps installed?

I'm reporting this, and I'll let you know what I find out.

My wife's phone has the same issue with non-existent vibration feedback.

this particular phone is about a month old. vibration stopped working today.
it's our second Ally. first one had a defective screen.

-sound works perfectly fine.
-haptic feedback is checked. phone will not vibrate, even when vibration is selected for calls.
-some apps have been installed. first noticed problem after installing pingchat (may be coincidence)
-volume slider is yellow. why is this significant?

firmware is 2.1-update1

i removed the shortcut for pingchat from my homescreen (without uninstalling) and haptic feedback now works.

So just removing the Shortcut solved the Feedback issue? That is definitely odd.
