This is the 1st 'smartphone' I've owned and so far so good.

A few questions:
1)How do I get the backlight for the keypad to stay on longer?
2)Why do weather radar images not animate or 'loop' if you will? I've noticed animated little gif's like smiley faces in forums don't move either.

Am I doing something wrong or is there a setting(s) that need changing?
Verizon tech support suggested downloading a different browser for the latter issue but I thought I'd check here first.

Thanks!

mb.

Welcome to the Forum!!

1) Keypad Backlight? Unfortunately, at this point there isn't a way to adjust the timing on it, unfortunately.

2) yes the Browser doesn't currently support the animated Emoticons and some Flash content might not play... You can try Skyfire or any of the other Web Browsers to see if they work better for you. For the Weather Maps I use WeatherBug elite or My-Cast Weather which have great Radar and Satellite 'loops'

That's whats cool about Android is all of the experimenting you can do with Apps...

I thought you could change how long before the backlight dims somewhere in settings because I feel like I changed it to the lowest which was 30 sec.? Maybe I'm dreaming that.

On another note to add to the whole "Ally is great but..." I am finding myself torn. I am still within my 30 day window and am contemplating giving back the Ally. I can't say I'm really having any issues with it fortunately, but I am not enjoying the somewhat "bulkiness" of it. I am considering the Env3 instead which has all the same capabilities I use the phone for as the Ally-calls, texts, email and occasional internet. I don't NEED an android phone. I find I don't really use the apps much. They are novelty that I use a few times, and then the interest fades quickly. I wonder if anyone has had the Env3 to hear whether it is a good phone or not? I've read many reviews of it and the biggest thing I see is people say it "shuts off randomly". But on the same note, people have voiced many issues with the Ally and i have yet to really have a problem with it. Is it worth the switch? Any input would be helpful.

My guess is that they do this to save the battery that already gets a ton of usage from the touchscreen and all that the device has to run on it.

I say on another forum that there is an app out there called "Lit Keys" that will let you have the keyboard back light on longer. It costs $2.99 but would be worth the investment if that is something that you really need.

To help with the battery issue if you are going to be using the keyboard light more, I would suggest getting a task killer app on your phone and using it as much as possible. This has helped save my battery life quite a bit since I downloaded it.

I have an env3 ... and just played with an Ally. They are extremely close in physical size to each other. I'll have 'em side-by-side after FedEx delivers my new Ally tomorrow. But if you are thinking there's a dramatic difference in physical size - there isn't!

I agree with Clint. I have used both devices and you are not going to see a difference if you go from the Ally to the enV3.

1: The keypad light is a little quick to turn off but there is an application that you can use to change the light timing, it's in the Android Market it's called "Lit Keys"

2: Yeah I agree with the other comments, I have the enV3, Touch and Ally and they all about the same in weight and size... BUT a "Smart Pone" isn't for everyone... I loved the time I had on my enV3 it's a great phone, but I'm now hooked on all that a Smart Phone can do for me... If you don't need the features then the enV3 would be great...

The only issue I can think of on the enV3 is that SOME people who carried it in a tight pocket mentioned that it was possible to Pocket Dial... I never had the problem but it was reported...

I hope that LG might address the backlight for the keyboard. Obviously, it's not a difficult thing to customize. Hate to spend $3, but it would be a nice feature.
