Hi,

I just got an Ally last weekend and have two major problems with it thus far

1) When I try to add Facebook from Accounts & sync settings nothing happens. So I cannot add Facebook contacts at all. Yes, there is the Facebook Phonebook folder on the home page, but that's not what I want. This happened with both the preloaded Facebook app and the latest update.

2) So, I tried using Socialite to sync from there, and encountered different serious errors. Socialite won't load anybody's profile in full, not even mine. It would sync contacts, but they are without photos. Most common error is "Unable to Connect to the SNG Server" - experienced both with 4 bars of 3G and with WiFi.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, as not having this feature work really cripples the phone.

Thanks, Orin

Note that I contacted LG Tech Support about this, and they referred me to Verizon.

1) When you try to add an account under "Accounts and Sync" does it just ignore your input or are there errors being displayed? I have been able to add my Facebook account successfully... Let me look into this.

2)Yeah, I'm seeing the "Unable to Connect to the SNG Server" as well, and I'm right under a tower... My profiles are NOT updating as well. Let me see if I can find anything to help.

Hi, when trying to add Facebook on "Accounts and Sync" it does nothing, just goes back to the previous screen. I have tried long and short presses on it, but still nothing. I did notice on "full" Facebook that Facebook for Android was listed twice as having permissions, so perhaps it is seeing both the stock and updated versions. I'm deleting those privileges and will re-add them, and will see if that helps. If not, it's some ugly CSV file work ahead of me...

Thanks, Orin

Deleting and re-adding the app privileges didn't help...

The only solution I found that works, sometimes, is to do a reset on the phone. Not the ideal solution but for the two phones of customers of mine who had this issue, it worked for them. Be sure to backup all your info first. Oddly enough google did not redownload their apps, just their contacts were restored.

Now mind you, out of the 20 ally's sold in my store, only 2 have that facebook and profile issue. The rest are working fine.

Thanks much for that idea -- assuming that it's the "Factory Data Reset" option?

After doing that, is there any particular order of steps that you recall doing? Like for example did you add Facebook before the GMail account? And, did you update the Facebook app before the sync?

Thanks again, Orin

Thanks again.

Has anyone confirmed that this solution has worked for them "in the wild" yet? My wife's new phone is exhibiting this exact issue (cannot add Facebook as an account in address book, can add Socialite as an account, but profile pics never load in the address book OR the Socialite app itself.) But before I go to the trouble of a full reset, I want to make sure it has a reasonable chance of fixing the problem.

After the reset, we downloaded the facebook and myspace apps again. Then ran them. They had to set them up again but they worked fine after that. It seems the solution even fixed their socialite app.

Thanks, I will definitely give that a try. If I can please bug you with a couple more detailed questions...

1) Does the reset keep things like phone number and network? (Wondering if this is something I can do myself...).

2) When my phone was set up, one of the first things they did was add my google/gmail account. Is that pretty much the standard procedure, are you doing that before Facebook setup / sync?

Thanks again!

I'm having the same issues with my Ally. Socialite WAS working for me for the first few weeks of owning this phone. Set up my socialite accounts and before I knew it, my Ally phonebook was filled up with all my friends and showed their default Facebook pictures next to their name. Then I started noticing fewer and fewer of my contacts had a picture anymore. I'd go into Socialite and nobody's profile pictures were loading on there either.

I thought finding this discussion was going to solve my problems. I factory reset my Ally, first thing I did after that was go into Android market (had to register Gmail account first to access Market), downloaded the newest Facebook app to update the one pre-programmed on the Ally, but when I went back into add sync accounts, the same things happened. I select Facebook, type in my log-in information, it takes me to my Facebook, but it never gets added to sync'd accounts. When I go back and try to "add" Facebook again, it starts going it again where it just loops me back to the settings screen without letting me do anything.

So I am unable to confirm that the factory reset fixes this problem. It hasn't for me.

--Update--

I launched Socialite the next day and the Sync Issue was back... We're still looking into the issue... One theory is that it could take up to two days to complete the update... I don't know if that explains why mine was up to date and then lost all of the pictures.

I also reset my Ally and it appeared to fix the issue... However the next day it was broken again.... I'm still looking into a solution.

Hmm, this is a troubling bug. It seems to only affect some. I wish I could reproduce it, as it would make it easier for me to track down what exactly is causing the issue, but alas, the two I fixed with the wipe don't have the issue anymore.

I am having the same issue. It is quite frustrating. Is there any way too remove the Socialite software?

Same problem.

I have a really strange error message when I dig into the Socialite settings... "### friends did not confirm their accounts their profiles will not be accessible." That number is shrinking as the Friends are being downloaded. The Motorola DROID does not have this problem, I know LG can fix it by just removing Socialite.

Give up on Socialite... TwitDroid/Facebook are far better. Unless you guys have secretly added push services for Sociallite but I doubt it till a 2.2 update.

Ideas for an immediate 2.1-update2
---- Messaging Widgets ... by jacky.virtu ( Main Home Screen, place a widget in place of the google bar/weather)
---- place a 2x2 weather icon on the left or right of the main home screen
---- do not waste space with a contacts icon, you can get there from Phone!
---- forget Visual VM icon (its not up to date on the shipping units, anyone who can update it... can put the icon there)
---- preload VCast Videos OnDeand
---- Facebook for Android ... by Facebook!
---- Twitter ... by Twitter Inc!
---- Meebo IM .... by Meebo
---- look at the MotoDroid home screen replacements
---- add customizable notification LED for GMAIL, GTALK, SMS, GVOICE, EMAIL1, EMAIL2, ect. forget separate MMS notifications, no one cares about MMS vs SMS.
---- add direct short cut to Alarm Clock (its in CLOCK aka BEDSIDE MODE)

Major Ideas...
---- Record how-to videos and preload them on the memory card to play the first time the phone is setup.
---- KEYBOARD CHANGE! Change the "Search" "Back" "Menu" Home" keys to be for @, ? , ! , SPEECH TO TEXT
---- THERE IS NO NEED TO HAVE 4 KEYS ON A PHYSICAL KEYBOARD THAT HAVE 2 HARD SWITCHED BUTTONS AND 2 CAPATIVE BUTTONS INCHES AWAY.
---- Let SD card auto mount when plugged into a USB Host.
---- add iTunes (MAC!!!!) / Windows Media Play music Sync. Even if you make the customers navigate to thier mp3 location and then you scan thier MP3s and give a list of Artist, song, album and check boxes.
---- re-release a "simple" version with a MB counter so VZW will let you sell a model with a $9.99 data pak. I see lots of people who manage 500mb on the Samsung Reality, thats double the $39.99 mobile broadband card. then you can lower the ENV3 to not require it. oh and inflate the price of the Ally.

Good Comments... I have passed them on to Development... As for the Socialite App issues I am still trying to find answers to help out.

I just got my Ally today, and when I try to sync my facebook account in my contacts, it takes me back to the previous screen. Socialite does absolutely nothing for me, no photos or anything at all. Should I go back to the store?
