I've noticed that my battery lasts about 6 hours on a light use. I've read on Verizon forums that there might be a way to fix it on Droids, but it doesn't seem to work on LG Allys. What they were referring to is the Cell Standby in Battery use and mine is constantly in the upper 70% range(without signal that is, but I live in a good signal area.) Is this normal for our phones?

I'm sure you are aware of the issue with Android Apps multitasking and running in the back ground shortening Battery Life. I won't go into that, other than to recommend an App Killer utility. I use "Advanced Task Killer" so it's constantly watching and killing unneeded apps... MAKE SURE you add the important apps like "Clock" to it's IGNORE list or it will kill the Clock and your alarm won't go off in the morning.. (I fell for that one)

I know that initially my Battery Life on my Ally was pretty short, but what I did was run the battery until the phone died and then recharge it fully... I left it on the Charger for 12 Hrs. (No shouldn't take that long) after about 3 times the Battery life has improved substantially... Possibly a batch of batteries got out of the factory not properly "Conditioned" Now, I can easily get through day on a Charge. Pretty good for an Android phone right now.

I would try "Conditioning" the Battery first.

I have read and tried the >> *#*#4636#*#*

I have tried this *#*#4636#*#* in the past, and it didn't work well with me.

I tried that and actually got worse battery life as well as much worse signal.

I also noticed that my email, messaging, and other things were being delayed...maybe a reaction to changing the setting. Is there any way to forward this info to LG to get this fixed? or is this an Android issue?

The above listed "fix" seems to work on most Android devices, so, I believe this is a Ally thing. Anything posted on this forum that is of consequence Pro forwards to the appropriate dept at Lg.

Humm, what happens when you go back to the Defaults? Does the Signal Improve? How about the Battery life? Typically, how long are you getting on a Charge?

We are looking at this.... Are you by chance an old "Alltel" Customer who migrated over to Verizon? This is one of the questions we have right now... It seems we have seen this more with Alltel customers who have moved there number to Verizon.

I passed this info onto one of my Solutions people to see if they had seen this before and they weren't aware of it... But let me dig a little deeper.

I have noticed that some days are better than others...I know the first few days, that the Socialite continually using 3g was smokin my battery....My fixes until the patch:

Ditch Socialite - use syncmypics

The *#*#4636#*#* trick helped also

When I reverted settings I got better Batt life and my reception went back to normal. I get over 10 hours on light use, about 4.5 with very heavy use.

Also, if I don't really use the phone, (like the past 2 days for instance) I'm still on 40% charge when I pulled it of the charger at 9am MST yesterday! So, basically I'm saying that I don't believe that the Ally has an inherent battery issue.

I am having the same issue with my battery life. My time without signal currently reads 92% and I live in an area with great Verizon coverage. I have tried the "airplane mode fix" and the test mode fix, no dice. I can't get through a full day of light usage. I like the phone, otherwise, but this is a deal-breaker. I'll be returning it soon if it can't be resolved.

I've had my Ally for just over a month, the past week, maybe two, my battery life has GREATLY decreased. I can unplug at 6 am, and by the end of my work day (4:30) I'm down to 19% on my battery. I have no apps running. My battery usage has 'cell standby' and 'phone idle' as the only items sucking battery life.

I did notice the past couple of mornings that when I take the phone off the charger the batterylife app that I have installed says something along the lines of 'over volt'?

Suggestions?

I haven't seen the 'Over Volt' error with BatteryLife yet, but the decreasing battery life it's self is something to be looked at. Have you replaced the Battery? You might check to see if you can get a replacement battery from your Verizon dealer, or Verizon Customer Service.

I am having the very same issue and just got Verizon and my Ally this past weekend. Extremely short battery life. Less than 7 hours of light to moderate use. I am at work so there is no way for me to overuse the phone, they don't allow it. Any suggestions? The "airplane" mode fix did not work. Also if a Product Pro could explain exactly what "Cell Standby" is and whether it should be in the list of things using battery.

Thanks!

Their are some pretty good threads on this subject that help clear up the mystery... If I've read them correctly the Cell Standby under Battery use refers what percentage of battery Drain was caused by the Cell Radio. Below is an interesting thread... It does deal with the Nexus One and T-Mobile But the theory would still apply.

http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/android/thread?tid=72b0ca0abd5eca92&hl=en

Also Press on "Cell StandBy" and it will open another window and with "Time On" and "Time Without Signal" ... If the Time without Signal value is high then maybe it's indicating that your Cell Radio is struggling to maintain a signal... Just guessing on that one.

It's the "Time Without Signal" that really eats battery. The standby just means the time that the phone is not actually in a call.
