I've had my LG Rumor since early July and i thought my charger broke. Instead, I went to the sprint store and learned that the socket where you plug in your charger on the phone was broken, or loose. Anyone else have this problem? Elaborateee. And how much did it cost you to get it repaired?

Call LG Customer Service and they can provide you with a Return Authorization number and elaborate further on the repair process.

Sprint will not repair mine either. Lg wants you to send it in, and it takes two weeks to be repaired, and this is not covered in your warranty by LG (just so you know) I will be charged to repair this. LG rep says I've been jerking on the charger cord. I'm 33 years old. I assure you I know how to plug in a charger without yanking on the cord. Min is only 4.5 months old.

You said so yourself in another thread on this topic that the charger broke in your luggage. Apparently you packed it so that something jammed it. This is not a fault of LG - we did not pack your luggage.

Ummm... LG Product Pro, I think you are misinterpreting what jodimoseley stated. The charger may have broke in her luggage but that has nothing to do with the phone itself breaking. Like why would jodimoseley bother sending in the charger???? I, too have a Rumor. Ipurchased it in May 2008 and the phone wont charge because of a defect in the phone's plug. I, too, know how to remove acharger without yanking it. It appears that the receptacle is loose/broken. Here is a link to an interesting article for those who wish to file a complaint about theLG Rumor

What I'm trying to point out is this:

The customer broke phone charger in her luggage therefore the phone charger is not making good contact with phone and not charging the phone properly. The phone is not charging properly and perhaps shorting it inside resulting in the phone malfunctioning.

I realize people are experiencing issues with the Rumor; however, in this case I rule it as consumer neglect/abuse.

I have just received word that LG Repair will repair any 260 (Rumor) that is determined to have a charger port issue and the phone is still within warranty. Please call LG Customer Service to receive a Return Authorization number. Thanks!

The old  LG plug with the two spring loaded lock pins on the side is a defective design. It allows you to plug the plug in 180 degrees backwards which will likely destroy the electrical contacts in either the phone or charger plug or both.

Since it is a defective design, the manufacturer has discontinued the design. However, if the plug contacts are broken, i know of people who have bought a new plug at Walmart and put the broken one in the package along with the new receipt and got their money back for it. It eventually goes back to the manufacturer and they eat up the cost- which is as it should be in the case of a defective product.

To prevent putting the plug in backwards again- put a few little stickey yellow tape dots on the phone and plug to make sure they line up correctly.

The correct design for ANY electrical plug (especially d.c.)is a failsafe design which prevents the contacts from ever touching eachother if plugged in wrong. (The plug at the end of a telephone cord is one example)

Hello,

I got an LG Rumor almost 3 years ago now, and within the past year my charging port has started going, and now it refuses to charge. You mentioned something about buying a new plug and switching it. Could you expand and tell me in step my step instructions how exactly to do this?

Thankyou very much!
