I just upgraded to the LG Rumor2 (LX 265) on Sprint and am having one major problem. When I use a wired hands-free headset plugged into the 2.5mm jack, both incoming and outgoing sound has major issues. My software version is LX265V05.

The incoming sound has VERY low volume (but is not distorted). The outgoing volume levels are fine, but the voice quality is very distorted. I experimented with several different headsets and have the same exact sound problems with all of them. All of these headsets work well with my previous Sanyo phone.

I do not like Bluetooth headsets and am really hoping there is a way to get a traditional wired headset to work well with my Rumor2. I use my phone for several work-related calls per week where I really need to use a wired headset.

My reason for posting here is I was hoping to get a response from the "LG Pro" in the forum. Is there anyway this problem can be reported to the LG engineers and possibly resolved with a software update?

Are you using a stereo (Or one with two ear pieces?) I noticed that on my Rumor 2 that if I don't have the the Plug plugged in snugly, my audio is soft... I'm not asking you to force but just see if it's in tight. Once I pushed mine in tight the audio sounds good. If you have tried these things, I'd say you might have a bad Rumor2... From what I'm experiencing the Audio sounds good...

I am also looking into what is the latest version of software for the Rumor2. Hopefully I'll get a response today.

Thank you for the quick reply!

No - this is not a stereo headset. This is a standard, mono, 2.5mm hands-free headset with one ear piece and a boom microphone. I have confirmed that the plug is tightly plugged in.

When you say you are experiencing good audio, are you actually using a wired handsfree device for phone calls? Or, are you using stereo headphones for music? My problem is not for music. I've used a stereo headset with a 3.5mm-to-2.5mm adapter to listen to mp3s on the SD card and that sounds just fine...no problem there. My problem is specifically with using a handsfree headset for phone calls.

Please let me know. I will find that very interesting if you are using a regular 2.5mm wired headset for voice calls and have good sound with plenty of volume. If that is the case, I'll have to look possibly look into getting a replacement through Sprint.

My only other option would be to use a bluetooth, but I really prefer the old fashioned wired headset for the flawless voice quality and no need to charge a battery.

Yes I was using the Wired Headset using the 2.5mm Jack. it is a dual ear stereo Headset. I'm getting my Rumor2 activated so I'll make some actual calls from it as a test when It gets set up.

I wonder if there is any chance I am getting low incoming volume because the phone is sending a stereo signal and I'm using mono headsets? Although I have never had this problem on other phones that sends a stereo signal for music and that also doesn't help my outgoing voice problem at all.

I'm still very interested to hear what your results are with both incoming and outgoing voice.

For outgoing, leave yourself a voicemail and see how your voice sounds to see if it is all distorted like with mine. (You can do this on Sprint by going into your voicemail, selecting "2" for Send Message, then send a voice message to your phone number.)

If you get bad results and can escalate this problem to the engineers to be fixed through a software update I'd be very impressed with LG for their responsiveness!

I just tried my Headset again and left myself a lengthy Voice Mail on my office phone and it sounded great... I also called my Rumr2 from my office phone and it sounded good as well... Mono Headset? I'm not sure, Unfortunately I don't have a Mono Headset to test. I'm also wondering if you have a bad phone.

Thanks for the info. I suppose it might just be a faulty phone.

What bad luck...I am probably one the few people left who really like using those old fashioned wired handsfree sets and my phone happens to have a bug affecting this feature!

Anyway, I tried my wife's bluetooth on my Rumor2 and that works just fine. So I decided to go the bluetooth route and invest $80 in a Plantronics Voyager Pro headset. This model is supposed to be about the best you can get for voice quality.

If I were to try to get a warranty exchange with Sprint, they would give me a refurbished phone which is just asking for more trouble than I have now. Quality control is horrible on Sprint's refurbs. I actually worked customer support for Sprint in the earlier 2000s and refurbs were always terrible. From what I have heard, that situation hasn't improved.

I had an opportunity to tour LG's Repair facility in Alabama and watched how they handle their "Refurbished phones" I found a lot of them had never been used or only used slightly. They were phones that for one reason or another never been opened, or opened but not used, so they brought them in and totally dissembled them and updated and tested the Mechanical and Electrical parts then reassembled them and tested the whole phone as a unit. I was really impressed with there facility and how they handled the phones... After that I wouldn't feel at all bad about getting a refurbished phone though LG because I know they have all of the latest and greatest parts, software, and are tested again... I'm not sure how Sprint handles there Refurbished phones.
