JUST got the Rumor Touch VM510 via Virgin Mobile. I don't understand how to get an email notification on my phone's main screen. I don't want to have to go into my email to check for new emails...can't it be setup to push an alert to my phone screen? TIA

Yes. Open your Email App then go to settings, then Preferences, and at the bottom of the menu there should be an option that says "Tell me when I have new Email" This will cause a small notification icon to appear on the Home Screen.

First, thanks so much for responding. The keys / screens that you suggested are not following what's on my phone. I'll take you through it. You said to:

1) Go to email app .....To get there, I did the following.....(from my home menu, I clicked "Main Menu" > "Messaging" > "Email + IM" as this is how I know how to get to the Email+IM App. As you probably know, this took me to the screen with the different email and IM providers (yahoo, gmail, AIM, etc). Not where I want to be, right? Or maybe it is....

2) Continuing with your suggestion, I seeked out anywhere I could find "Settings" or "Preferences" having anything to do with mail. I clicked Yahoo as that is my email provider. It opened and I found a little virtual button with up-arrow on the bottom-center of my screen, so I clicked it and there is a choice for "Account Settings" which I clicked to find my personal info associated with my yahoo mail, including user name and password. THere is box to check that says, "New Email Alerts," which I checked when I setup the account....with that, still not getting what I want.

3) I guess I should tell you at this point that I have been seeing a "+1" at the top of my home screen, but it's never more than +1 and there are always many more new emails in my inbox than the +1 it's showing....also, I have to actually unlock the phone and go in to see the +1....what I was hoping for is that my phone is locked and on my belt and it would wake-up and play a sound/song when a new email arrived. Prolly not gonna happen, huh?

Unfortunately i don't have access to the Virgin Mobile version of the Touch so the Menu items could be a little different... The Bubble at the top of the Home screen is the notification I that I was talking about.... However on mine the little bubble on the front screen does increment with the number of emails (Alerts) I receive. Also under Ringers you should be able to turn on an audible alert for the Received messages... Do you see that option? Am I missing your point?

No, we're totally on the same page. Some people don't care if they get an email notification on their screen....they'd just as soon go into their email to check it. I'd rather not. Problem today is that I can't even get into email. I open the "Email + IM" application, which lists all of the web-based email services....I click on Yahoo which (instead of opening) takes me to the "account settings" prompting my password. I enter my password, hit save and it tells me "Failed to sign-in, please check your login settings." My login settings remained the same from yesterday when I was successfully logged-in. I double check my password and re-entered it several times with no luck. Any answer on this one?

One thing weird that I did notice is that when I went to log-into Yahoo Messenger on my computer this morning, it told me that I was logged-in elsewhere (which I did on my phone). Is there a conflict with Yahoo email also? In other words, can I NOT be logged into Yahoo mail on my phone when I am logged in on my computer? I don't think so, because I was logged-into both at the same time yesterday. Anyhow, Y! mail won't let me log in today.

Back to the original issue, it's kind of a deal breaker for me. I haven't given up yet, but may downgrade to VM's Kyocera Loft which claims to push email notifications to the main screen or go up to the uber expensive Blackberry Curve at $299.00 as I know this will sync with outlook and give me email notifications.

Any feedback on any of the above? Thanks again for taking the time.

1: You mentioned that you are struggling to get into Yahoo mail. So you can log in on a PC using the same credentials? If so then I would pull the battery on the Touch clear the Temporary memory and then try again. For some reason it sounds like your Password is being stored incorrectly. I have my email client on my phones checking my Yahoo mail every few minutes plus I access it on my PC... So far I've not seen any conflicts doing this.

2: Yahoo messenger?? At least with Microsoft Messenger, you can only be logged in at one location at a time.. It prompts me that I am logged in else where, so I want to log out and log in on the phone.

3: I hate to loose you as a Touch user, but it sounds like the BBerry might be a bettr fit for your needs... It souds like a Smart phone would be handier for you and even though you might not use all of the features now, you can grow into them.

Let me know what you decide.

I'll try what you suggested with Yahoo mail.

I really think this phone is great for what it is and it's hard to walk away after the great support you're giving to me. But you are right. My quest over the last 5 years has been to find a smartphone, but not pay for data. Among other tasks that I want to use my phone for, the very most important is to add calendar events in outlook and sync with my phone as a pocket pda and productivity tool. Show me phone that could do that and I'll show you a rich inventor...every Outlook sync'ing phone is a smartphone and all smartphones require a data plan these days. I don't even need mail on my phone, but I did this as a way to get notification of events....I add events to outlook > sync Outlook with Yahoo > Event comes due and Yahoo calendar sends me a yahoo email to notify me > Email comes to my phone as a notification of the calendar event....all of this to circumvent a smartphone that syncs with Outlook, but not pay for data. Virgin Mobile (for what IT is) gives me good coverage and offers me a smartphone that can sync with outlook. I may have to leave LG, but for what it's worth, I just bought 55" LED HDTV from that arm of your business.

Thanks for all of your hard work to help me out.
