I found a video on YouTube that shows you how to use your own ringtones on the LG Rumor Touch. For those of you who own one, you are aware of the "Invalid file" error message you get when you try to set MP3s as ringtones. But there is a way around it if you're good with the computer. I'll try to explain this as best as possible for you to understand. If you have questions just reply.

Using a USB data cable copy the MP3 files you want as ringtones to the folder named in your memory card DCIM >100LGDCF. What I mean is open the DCIM folder first, then copy the MP3 to the folder named 100LGDCF within the DCIM folder. Or if you like, you can create a new folder (I named mine ringtones) instead of copying them to 100LGDCF. After you have the MP3 copied, right click the file and rename it to .3g2 For example: if the MP3 files is named Love Song.mp3 rename it to Love Song.3g2. This file format is usually for mobile videos, but the file will still play the sound even if it has no video. Then to set the file as a ringtone tap: More >Assign >Incoming Calls then choose one of the choices: Contacts with default ringer, Unsaved numbers, ect. And your ringtone is set! I have already been successful doing this with my LG Rumor Touch. I almost returned the phone because I thought there was no way to use my own ringtones. Thank God for Google!

Thanks for the post, I'll have to try this. The only way I've been able to get ringtones on my Sprint phones was to send them to myself is a MultiMedia Message (MMS) and then open them and from the menu choose "Set As"

This gives us another option to try... If you try KMBAR's method, just be careful.

I ran into an issue with this solution. Whenever someone calls, and I have a photo and ringtone assigned, it only lets  me hear the ringtone but not view the photo.

Anyone know why this is?

The method I mentioned is one that works on the Sprint Rumor Touch, so it looks like they have blocked this on the Virgin Mobile version of the Touch...  I don't know of any other way.

What you're actually assigning to calls is an audio/video file, without the video, not an actual ringtone.  When the phone rings you'll only hear the audio only. The picture will still still show up in your contacts list.

Alright, so I've been wanting to set my own ringtones onto my LG Rumor Touch but like many of you, I couldn't find a way to make it happen. Thanks to KMBR's post, I was able to figure it out.

It's simple, really. All you gotta do is convert an mp3 to a 3g2 format. Renaming it doesn't work.

I found this site that will convert mp3's and even youtube videos (for those who don't have mp3s) into the 3g2 format.

www.mediaconverter.org/

After you convert your songs, just drag n' drop them into your memory card. Once you've done that, go on and change your settings. Assign the song. It should work. Did for me.

This method worked great for me.  Some people may notice that the *.mp3 extension doesn't show in Win7 so they think they can't change it.  You need to go into Control Panel>Folder Options and then click on the VIEW tab.  Then make sure "hide known file extensions" button is not checked.  This will allow you to change *.mp3 to *.3g2.
