I read the manual for my new LG Incite, and it said that I could use activesync to set custom mp3s as ringtones. I've tried to do that, but whenever I open up the activesync file, it just opens up windows media player and attempts to copy all of my music to my phone. Having done that, I still can't figure out how to set a ringtone from windows media player, so I figured I would just copy the files already in my phone to the ringtones folder. I found 2 folders, the My Ringtones in My Documents, and the Rings folder under the Windows folder. I tried copying an mp3 file to both of those folders, and then going to my phone's settings and changing the ringtone from there, but all I could select were the 4 ringtones that came with the phone. How do I set up a custom ringtone, because none of these methods seem to work for me.

Also, is it possible to set up ringtones for each person in my contacts? I figured that you would be able to do so from the contact, but I can't find any options from there to do so. Please help ASAP.

You are on the right track. First things first though. Have you compressed the size of your mp3? Through a program such as audacity?

Was there any resolution to creating your own and getting them to work?

Thanks for any info

Anyone who has had an Incite less than 30 days needs to take it back to the store pronto and get ANYTHING else. It is nothing by problems and it only gets worse as time goes on. AT&T replaced mine once because the microphone quit working. Now they tell me I just need to take the battery out and put it back in without first turning off the phone. That works but only lasts a couple of days. You don't know the microphone is not working until you try to talk on it! Wifi will turn on but the phone won't connect to it. Some times bluetooth will pair with bluetooth on my car and sometimes not. It never stays paired. AT&T won't replace it again although it is still under warranty. They say there is a means for me to get the microphone to work and that bluetooth is not their technology.

Couldn't get mine to work either. Finally managed it tho (works for me!). First you have to send all your contacts to your phone (they will still be on your SIM also). Store (copy & paste, cut & paste, whatever works for you) your ringtones in programs, under my ringtones. Go to your contacts, should be two listings for each contact. One with a pic of a SIM card by the name, the other will have an address book beside it. Okay, "click" on the contact of your choice, we'll call him Joe, with the SIM card beside the name. This opens a screen showing all numbers you have for Joe with option to call or send text. Bottom right hand corner press Menu button. Press Save to Contacts ( I know, I know Joe's already in contacts, just bear with me here! )
When you look at the screen, there are multiple options to choose from. Name, Picture, Company, various number choices and yep, there it is....ringtone!! There is a slider down the side of the screen to enable you to view all choices. WooHoo!!!
Tap on ringtone and it will allow you to choose the ringtone you want from your options. Once you have done that, your ringtone starts to play automatically. Close out "X" of that screen. Find Joe in your contacts. Should be 3 now. 1 w/SIM card to the side. 2 w/address books to the side. Open each address book entry for Joe, one will have ringtone across the bottom of info and name of ringtone on other side. Leave this one in contacts. Go into other entry for Joe w/address book and it shouldn't have ringtone info listed. You can delete this entry. You have to leave the SIM card entry and the address book entry with the ringtone info listed and should work fine.
Hope this helps someone else like me out there that isn't smart enough to operate a "smart phone"!!!

When i first got the phone i was able to throw all ringtones in the my ringtones folder and they would all show up for both my incoming calls and receiving text messages. I then updated the phone and now the custom ringtones will not appear as an option for receiving text messages but they still show up for incoming calls. Anyone have any ideas?

I ended up throwing the text tones in another folder on the phone and they showed up as an option when selecting the incoming text messages. I am happy now!

Creed, Were you able to make tones for different contacts for incoming texts from them or is it just one for everything? I have the ringtones for different people but can't figure out how to do it for texts.

Yes you can set custom ringtones for the Incite ... You have to make sure that the ringtones are NOT OVER 300kb in size. I am using Zedge.net to make my customs off of my own music I have stored.... and dont let the time exceed 18 seconds and you will always be under the 300kb size... wurks real well and now i have over 60 in my phone.... What I am having an Issue with is how do you change the ringtones for TEXT massages? That I cant figure out !!!

I think by this time we've all figured out how to use our own custom ringtones for incoming call alerts. Just make sure it's under 300K and place it on your storage card in a new folder named "My Documents".

The problem it seems like Bigfootmaxwell is having though is that he/she is unable to assign custom ringtones to other events on the phone, such as incoming Text alerts. For me the solution to this was to place a copy of the custom ringtone I wished to use in the Windows tree directly on the phone. It then became a clickable option under notifications for all events, including texts. However, I was not able to get the phone to recognize it as a clickable option under the Sounds/Notification tab if I placed the custom ringtone in any other folder.

Since the LG Incite has such limited memory to begin with, I'd rather store files like ringtones (I have over a gig of ringtones saved on my storage card because I send alot of on the fly MMS messages to my friends which has become something of a contest between us) directly on my memory card as opposed to the device memory. So does anyone know of a way to save the ringtones on the storage card and still have the device recognize it as a clickable option under Sounds/Notifications?

Glad you got it figured out... With Ringtones, by default, they have to be under 300KB in size and can be in the Ringtones folder. Alert tones need to be in the "My Windows Mobile-Based Devce" Folder>>Application Data>>Sounds... Folder.
