There it went again! My internet connection with my AX8575 keeps dropping every 5 minutes or so. I have to switch USB ports and re-run QuickLink Mobile for it to re-recognize my phone. The same thing happened with my Motorola V3M. Sometimes it takes the whole computer down to the point I can't shut down (locks up on "Saving Your Settings"). I tried to run the LG USB updater, but alas, it stopped installing at just 5 blocks of progress. I have seen nothing on the Dell site about this type of problem. Has anyone heard of this, or better yet experienced it and FIXED it?

Oh, that's right, I had better swap the USB cable again and re-connect before I hit "Submit", or I'll have to do this all over again!

Have you checked on the Carriers end to see if it's something with the network? I'm just curious since it's happening on two different Brands of phones. I know on the Verizon side with the Chocolate Touch (Cousin to the AX8575)Verizon won't allow 'Tethering' unless you have a Smart Phone and are paying for the Tehering service... Maybe they are detecting the Constant connection and disrupting it?? Just a guess.

I'm not familiar with the QuickLink Software or how well it works.

When installing the LG Driver, make sure you don't have your AX8575 plugged into the PC.

You can download Ver 4.9.4 at: http://www.lgcommunity.com/file_library.aspx ... Click on the Driver Folder Icon.

Let me know what happens...

Anybody else Tethering an AX8575??? You want to jump in with any suggestions?

I will have to contact Alltel as well and ask the same question. Quicklink is what recognizes the phone and has the "connect" button to get online. Whoops! Just dropped again! It was the same (actually worse) with Motorola Phone Tools with the V3M. I know I can just click "Start", "Connect To", and "Alltel Wireless Internet", but it still drops just the same. When this happens, the phone vanishes from the Device Manager as a detected USB device. That's why I have to switch ports to get re-detected again. 5 minutes later. . . . . Yikes.

I noticed that when it drops, if I just click "Connect" again, I see send activity, but no receive activity. After one minute it says "Remote computer does not respond". I have to switch USB ports before I can connect again. Just dropped again.

I will try the phone update again. It stopped installing last time after a short while (5 blocks of progress). I'll update this thread as soon as any news arises, and I thank you for your help. I have found nothing on the internet about this problem anywhere! Dropped again!

Got News. The LG USB driver update did nothing, just like the Dell BIOS and chipset updates. The problem persists. It seems I can stay on a bit longer with the USB printer unplugged. The other news is that I installed the phone on my twin's Dell, and it NEVER drops, so it's a USB (perhaps low power?) problem on this computer. Now, what to do about it.

Are you hooking the Phone to your PC on a USB Hub or straight in to the PC'S USB port? I'd avoid the Hub, for testing. Also you might want to check into a plug in USB Card that has additional ports... Maybe it will work better for you.

Direct to the PC. It has 5 ports. I don't have a hub. It doesn't matter if I plug in the front or back ones, it still drops. I even tried it with only the mouse connected (disconnected the printer and keyboard). I just wonder if there is a fix for the standard ports, or if I will have to install a separate USB card.

I'm not sure how to resolve this issue. It does sound like the card is being interrupted... If you were to purchase an Add on USB Card and it doesn't resolve your issue, then you would be stuck with it. So I'm not sure what to suggest.

I got it! Here is what I did:

Although I did not fix the problem with the USB ports on this computer, on the advice from Alltel, I tried it on another computer, and the connection never drops. I had tried to enable ICS (Internet Connection Sharing) several times in the past, but always got an IP address conflict error. After setting all of the computers on the network to a different IP than ICS uses, it still gave the error. I then got the idea to get out my router installation disc. When the router settings came up, lo and behold, the router ships with a factory default IP address of 192.168.0.1, which is the one Windows ICS needs. So I changed the last digit to 12 and the error went away, but the connection still wasn't sharing. I had to go to the other computers on the network and change everything back to where it was before I changed everything trying to figure out how to get ICS to work. I finally got everything set back, and it still didn't work. I went to the Microsoft KB and found a "how-to" (which I had followed in the past, but with the IP conflict. . . .didn't get past the first step) that said to set the "slave" computer(s) to "connect to a connection that's "always on"", which I hadn't before because, duh!, I disconnect the cell phone to take calls, so it's NOT "always on", but that's what finally made it come to life. It now works, always works, and keeps on working until I disconnect it. It is also MUCH faster, even with 2 computers being surfed on at the same time!

So although I didn't fix the USB problem on this computer, I found a solution that worked, and I had always wanted to share the internet connection anyway, so got an "extra bird" in the process.

Thanks for your input!
