I have a Tritan AX840 and can not add custom ringtones. Is this an Alltel thing or a LG thing because I have had this phone for a week and am not happy with the ring tone features. Alltel is not helping and LG has not responded to my email to customer service.

All I want is to add custom ringtones instead of using the boring ones that are available on the phone. My old cheap phone is looking pretty good right now.http://www.lgcommunity.com/DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default/save32.png

You can use custom ring tones.... Mount your memory stick to your PC and copy the files you want to the "My Audios" folder. Dismount the phone from the PC and then go to the Phone menu --> My Stuff folder --> Audios --> and then to the options menu ad Copy your file or Files from the card to the Phone memory. Then select the sound you want that is NOW in the Phone memory NOT THE CARD, and when you select it it will allow you to set it as an Alert or a Ring Tone.

Let me know if this works!

I tried this process and actually moved the files but can not use them as a ringtone. Is there any other way to use my music as a ringtone?

Hiya, FYI this is Alltel's doing not LG. Its my understanding (from other forums) that other Tritan owners with different carriers can add custom ringtones like Jeff mentioned. Alltel users must ..work around the blocks. Email me at panndoria@yahoo.com if you would like to know more.

I have had my tritan for not even a week and I have yet to figure out how to use an mp3 sound as a ringtone. This is very frustrating!! And yes, I am also with alltell. Does anyone know a way around it?

I have followed steps for bitpim on my Tritan. Everytime I reboot, my mp3's don't show in the ringtone list. They show if I put them in the phone's audio file list but not if I put in the lk/ms folder. I have even followed the naming scheme that the stock ringtones have. very frustrating.

On another forum, these instructions worked great.

Do the obvious, download bitpim. Connect Tritan to PC.

Open Bitpim
Edit>Detect Phone
Look & see what COM it is on
Edit>Settings>Phone Wizard
Alltel>LG>LG-VX9700(Dare)
Select which COM it is on
Detect phone (its ok if it fails)>Finish
Hit OK
Click Filesystem, expand folder
Select dload
Save mysound.dat file to desktop
Delete mysound.dat file
Brew>media>lk>ms
Drag ringtones in (MUST be mp3!)
Click the 2nd icon at the top, where the green arrow is pointing TOWARDS the phone (Send to Phone)
Hit the box next to ringtone and make sure the circle under Add is checked>hit ok

Also, if you have an mp3 that is too large, you can expand Media, then select ringers. Hit the musical note at the top, Add Ringers. This will open a wizard that pulls in an MP3 file. You can change the bit rate plus make it louder by changing the db level. I went up to 5.0 and it made my song blast without distorting it. Most have jumped near me when it rings due to the volume.

Once that is in there, and you have copied it to the Brew>media>lk>ms folder, hit send to phone. It will load and reboot.

Also another hint. Take out your microSD before attaching to bitpim. If you have a tone of songs and data, it pulls that information in to build the filesystem tree. Takes forever and it is not needed to perform the above task.
