Hi,I am trying to create a playlist on my LG Rhythm and running into a frustrating problem concerning importing .m3u files. Thiswould be agreat feature ifit worked correctly. Creating a playlistmanually is impractical because if you have 8GB of music, all youget is a list of songs to check and uncheck. They are just listed alphabetically with no option for sorting. To create a playlist this way couldtakehours.

Most of my songs are in .wma format, and the phone plays themjust fine. However, when I create a .m3u file and includeboth .wma files and .mp3 files, it will only add the .mp3 files to the playlist when I use the"Import .m3u file" option.

In fact, if I use the "export .m3u file" option, the created .m3u file will list the .wma music files. But if I try to import the same .m3u file I just created on the phone, it will not import the same songs into the playlist. So despite the fact that it will create an .m3u file with .wma files on it, it will not read an .m3u file with .wma files on it. Frustrating indeed.

Is this just a software bug or intentional for some reason? Would this be more of Alltel's doing? This phone is capable of holding a couple thousand songs, having this feature work would make it MUCH more useful.

Sorry for the long, complicated post, hopefully it isn't too hard to follow me.

Thanks for the post. I don't have a Rhythm but I'm researching this and will post up.

After a little bit of research I've determined that I need to know a bit more information to answer this question effectively. What software (iTunes, Windows Media Player, Foobar, Media Monkey, the Rhythm's media player, Winamp, or etc.) are you using to make the m3u (playlist) file?

I'm assuming you are using the Rhythm to make the playlist file (m3u). My recommendation for hundreds of music files to create playlists is to use Windows Media Player. It will categorize the music by album. This will allow easy creation of playlists. After all playlists have been made, music can be synced to the Rhythm and the playlists imported to the Rhythm. One of my teammates was able to duplicate your problem with wma files ripped from a personal CD. However once they used Windows Media Player and Nero to create a playlist there were no issues. Please post up your experience creating a playlist with Windows Media Player and using the Rhythm's Import Playlist option.

Well, the fact that you can repeat the problem and then were able to make it work gives me hope. However, try as I might, I cannot make it work. To answer your question, I created my .m3u playlists using Notepad! It is just a text file after all. I have made them with the Rhythm, too, but that is what I am trying to avoid. They don't work anyway. I would love to use WMP to create them, as I use that program and already have many playlists. However your post pointed out that there is much I do not know about WMP. I originally thought it only created playlists in it's own .wpl format, but now I know better.

Anyway, I am beginning to think it may have something to do with either file structure or method of transfer that's blocking me. I was using a microSD-USB adapter to copy files. All my music was in a folder called My_Music. I would create m3u files, and copy them to the root of the SD card. This is the only place the Rhythm seemed to find them. This method worked great for mp3s but not for wmas.

So I tried using your suggested method. I put my microSD card into an SD card adapter, and used the sync function in WMP(something I have never used before!) I created a playlist of wma files, and saved the m3u playlist directly to the SD card, in the root. This did not work. I tried saving a m3u playlist to the computer in WMPs default location, and copying the file to the root of the SD card; this did not work either. The Rhythm will find the m3u file, and will run the import function, but it will not actually add songs to the list. I tried getting WMP to sync the playlist file, but it will not do it, always says there is an error.

Thank you so much for looking at this. What I want to know is, what method you used to copy the m3u file to the SD card that produced a result? What directory on the SD card did you copy it to? Can you post some of the text from the m3u file that worked so I can see why mine might be different? Thanks!

Your problems sound the same as those I have when I try to use WinAmp to manage playlists on my LG AX565 phone/mp3-player.

WinAmp produced .m3u files and placed them in the "My Playlists" folder on the phone's microSD card.
However, when I used the phone's menu option to import .m3u files, none were found.
Turns out they have to be in the root of the SD card, as you discovered.

When imported, they produced empty playlists. I worked around this by opening the .m3u files in notepad++
and deleting the leading back-slash; then I imported the files.
