I bought this phone so that I would be able to import my phonebook to my Honda Accord. The phone HAS a PBA profile but it still will not import the phonebook. Honda tells me that my carrier (ATT) must have software to support this function. Anyone have any information on this? Is there anything I can do to get this feature to work?

Does the Accord see your Shine II when you try to "Pair" them? Does the phone recognize the Accord? Are you trying to "Export" them from the phone or, from the Car side, are you trying to import them?
Looking on the "www.driveaccord.net" there is an interesting thread about Bluetooth "http://www.driveaccord.net/forums/showthread.php?t=15815" You might read through the Thread to see if there is anything helpful there.

The phone has been properly paired. The HFL works fine. I cannot import the phonebook from the phone to the car.

Thank you. Maybe LG can pressure ATT to update their software for this phone and others like it.

I have escalated this issue, but I'm sure it's a work in progress so hopefully in the future can support more Car kits.

Hi. I have a couple of questions:

- Are your contacts currently only on the SIM card or have you copied them to your phone's memory
- In the past, were you able to transfer your contacts to your Honda with another phone successfully?
- What year is your Honda?

JCI is the company that makes the Bluetooth module in the car. Typically it works very well. Its a pain but can you describe the steps you took to attempt to have your contacts transferred? Did you attempt this from the car's onscreen display or did you try to send them from the phone?

Oh one other thing. Can you do us a favor and follow these steps:

- Make sure your car is not connected to the Shine but is paired
- FRom the phone, go to the Bluetooth menu: Menu> Settings> Connection> Bluetooth
- Select My Devices and highlight your Honda JCI carkit
- Using the Right Soft Key, select options and select Suported Services for the JCI

Please give us a list of what the JCI's supported services are

My contacts are on the telephone, not the SIM card. I had a Motorola V3 razr that also was not able to import the phonebook to the Car, but that phone did not have the PBA profile. I have a 2008 Honda Accord Coupe with Navi. I attempted to tansferr my contacts via the car's on screen display. Per the instructions, I went to the screen maked cellular phonebook. Clicked OK which sent me to the screen marked Import phonebook and again clicked OK. The voice indicted that the currently linked phone could not import the phonebook. I will try your other suggestions when I get home from work. Thanks.

I followed your instructions in your second message (time 1:05 pm). What appeared is the bluetooth logo followed by the word handsfree. Nothing else was listed.

Ah just what I figured. I was hoping that the phone would have recognized the carkit's PBA profile....which it isnt. This also confusing as well because the 08 Honda that you have uses the OP Profile (Object Push) to get the contacts out of your phone. Basically your phone pushes the contacts to the car rather than doing a sync which is what the PBAP does.

This is a common issue I have found with carkits coming from 2008 and earlier....particularly with the Honda/Acura kit like you have.

Try this:
- Leave the devices paired but dont connect them.
- Go to your Car's Bluetooth Menu again and try to download your contacts (Even though the 2 are not connected)

Typically what is supposed to happen in an ideal world: when you choose to download contacts from the BT car menu, the handsfree profile disconnects and then connects to OPP or PBAP.
I am looking to see if you force the car to download first with being connected to handsfree profile, you would by pass it and get your contacts loaded into the car. Thereafter, your contacts are in the cars memory and you can use the carkit as intended.

Assuming I understood what you meant by not connecting the devices (I am not that savvy) the phonebook did not import to the car. Everytime I try the phone indicates that the handsfree link has disconnected. When the import attempt is rejected the phone indicates that the handsfrre link has been reconnected.

Hi,

This was silly of me...

I just fired up the Shine II and looked at the available services (Bluetooth menu> Supported Services) and this phone does not have PBAP capabilities.

It does have OPP which is partly what PBAP needs to transfer contacts etc, but it doesnt have PBAP as you had suggested earlier.

This is basically the reason you are having issues with your contact transfer. Unfortunately there is no solution around this if the JCI is requiring the PBAP as a protocol to transfer.

This is probably not the answer you were hoping for, but I hope it helps clarify things at least :-)

First, let me say that I appreciate all your help. On the Bluetooth menu doesn't file transfer mean it can import the phonebook? Also, when I researched the Shine II at various web sites (phone scoop, phonedog etc) the specifications for the phone indicated that it contained a PBA bluetooth profile. Am I wrong on this point? I know that the original Shine did not have the PBA profile.

Glad I could help :-)

Wow. I just looked at PhoneScoop and it appears they missed that minor detail in the BT profiles available. You can see for yourself on the phone....If you go on your phone to your Bluetooth Menu and go down to "my Bluetooth Info" , select "Supported Services". You will see the list of all supported profiles. PBAP is not listed unfortunately.

To answer your question on file transfer- Yes you are partly correct. In Bluetooth, the profiles (as you know) are the key to specific protocol communication. In the string of levels that Bluetooth works, there may be several profiles which work from a sort of "master" profile on onwards. In the case if PBAP, its the OPP which is the big guy that carries the bulk of this functionality.

However if both devices dont have the exact profiles (PBAP in this case), they just wont talk to each other.

It sounds like you did your homework in going to those websites, but their data was incorrect. FYI: many of these blogs are correct 99% of the time, however sometimes they publish their info before a phone is even released.

Thanks. Bummer. So much for doing my homework. One of the main reasons for buying the phone was for the PBA profile which is not even there.

HAD A THOUGHT. CAN PBA BE ADDED TO THE PHONE VIA A SOFTWARE UPDATE?

It can....but dont hold your breath. This would require Bluetooth recertification. Although the Shine II is an nice phone, I dont see any manufacturer dumping post release SW updates to a mid-range phone unless there was a severe or fatal issue with the phone.
