I am just recently getting into bluetooth with my enV Touch. I just bought some headphones and a bluetooth enabled radio/cd player for my car. On both devices my music sounds like crap. Does bluetooth not sound that great or is it my enV Touch?

Hi Product Pro.. Instead of starting a new thread I found this one and will continue here. Possible Senorrock is having the same problems as I am. I recently picked up the enV Touch this Jan. and am GREATLY pleased with all the features of the phone. Besides using it for calls the primary use I'm getting out of the phone is the video playback ability and MP3 playback.

For Valentines my wife purchased me a pair of Motorola S805 headphones. I wanted something that would be decent to listen to music with and had read mixed reviews but overall these seemed to be the best choice for music.

I had no problem syncing and the headphones are performing as they should with one exception. The audio quality is quite horrible. If I use the phono plug the sound is superb, good bass, good treble, no hiss, no audio degradation, etc.. The headphones perform as well as my corded studio headphones. If I attempt to listen to audio playback in Bluetooth mode the MP3 or WMA files sound as though they were encoded at a very low bitrate. The bass is distorted at anything other than a medium sound volume, sounds like blow speakers. The trebles are way over amped at times and sound very hissy and scratchy.. If I turn the audio down to a very low setting all of these problems go away with the exception of the slight background hiss.

I've attempted to use each of the equalizer settingsand I've reduced the volume on the phone side thinking it may be over amplified there and that doesn't work either.

I'd say that it was the headphones but I know that's not true as they work most excellent in corded mode.

I think the problem lies in the overall reception between the phone and the headphones.

I'm not familair enough with bluetooth audio to know whether poor audio playback in bluetooth is the norm but I'd guess it's not with as far as we've come technology wise. Are there internal settings I need to change thru the ## menus?

When connected to my device here is what my phone shows.

Ok.. Just to make sure I didn't set my expectations too highly of streaming music via Bluetooth I copied my MP3s over to my friends Sony Equinox to test out my headphones.
I was very saddened to hear the same music on his phone play crystal clear! It was amazing the difference between his Sony and my LG.

Also another note. When adding my bluetooth device to his phone I was prompted to enter a passcode which turns out is 0000. I've never been asked for a passcode when connecting to the LG.
Could this be part of the problem? Could there be a service not installing correctly because of that?

I have an enV Touch and a an LG "HBS-250" Bluetooth Stereo headset. and At full volume and can't detect any distortion. I will say that the Volume isn't as loud as my wired head set, the Bass isn't all that great and the way they sit on my ears doesn't allow for optimum listening, in my opinion. But they sound pretty good compared to my Wired headset. I don't know if Bluetooth can fail on a Phone but I would say something is wrong, it sound better than you described.

Hi.

Volume increments are not an exact science in bluetooth stereo audio. This is probably why your friends Sony sounds great and the LG did not. Unfortunately I dont have those 2 exact devices here but these possibilities are very common.

Some phones and headsets have volume that run independent of each other. Basically in theory what is supposed to happen is that one of the devices, once the volume is trigggered is supposed to control the overall "master" volume. Can you please verify if changing volume on the headset affects the volume on the phone? You can usually tell by looking at the phone's UI slider changing as you change it from the headset.

If it does run independent:
If it is, you will notice that if you are able to lower the headset volume from the phone to its lowest setting and then change the phone's independent volume to max, the "blowout" sounds shouldnt happen. What is happening here, is that you are going to have to find the right median volume between the phone and headset by adjusting accordingly.

If it doesnt:
When you look at the UI on the phone changing volume they should both change according to how many volume clicks you have done. However, you may see 6-10 volume increments on the phone UI but when you change the volume they might not exactly align with the true volume you are hearing.

In theory, all Bluetooth devices should have a certain set of parameters in which they all play nice with each other. However the Bluetooth standard doesnt tell you the standard for implementation from manufacturer to manufacturer.

Thank you davidjett for posting here because everything you said is exactly what I am experiencing. The headphones I have are Motorola S305 and the deck is a Sony XPlode (don't know model number). I have played with the equalizer settings with no luck and music does sound great on a pair of $10 headphones. I will try lowering the phone volume and jacking up the headphone volume to see if that helps. I will try pairing this to a friends IPhone and see how that sounds.
